I came across to canon cameras Canon PowerShot SX30 IS Digital Camera it records Up to 20 Minutes and the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS records up to Approx. 29 min. 59 sec. (HD), 60 min. (SD) per clip , take it that it only 720 but still , if this is able to be done with these cameras then why not with the 7d ,60 and 550d. It just make me wonder

You should turn wonder into learning. The "limit" has never been about time. It is all about file size. The 5D/7D/T2i all record high quality VBR h.264, meaning more bits per second, meaning they hit the 4 gig file limit faster then cameras that record a lower bit rate.

This has been hashed over and over but you can record up to 30 minutes on the 7D with the lens cap on. It is believed the 30 minute limit is because of a "Video Camera" tax in EU.

Short answer, it's a "Management" decision, not a technical limitation. File spanning is already available in many Canon products.

Could you please point out the Canon products that record the same format and and bit rate that offer spanning?
