Two AF100's or something else?

So I'm starting a video production company, after coming into an investor. Was already going to be getting one AF100, but my investor asked if it would be useful or necessary to purchase one or even two more AF100's. Part of me obviously goes "HELL YEA!", but also "overkill" runs in my head. Is this overkill? Basically he's throwing around budgeting 7,500$ per camera (4,600-4,700 for the cameras, rest for accessories).

Also I guess for opinion sake, for the one AF100, with a 2,500$ budget what accessories would you go for??

Thanks for any help you can. Just looking to see your guys opinions.

What are you going to "Produce"?

IMHO : 3k for accessories doesnt get you very far with this camera.

Honestly if your doing events and corporate gigs you need a camera with a motorized zoom. A Dslr nor an Af100 has that.....

The only advantage to dslr and af100 is low light, quality, and dof, which honestly means nothing when your doing a corporate gig, because lighting is setup and you want to maintain a deep focus always.

Af100 and Dslrs are for Commercials, Music Videos, Film

My Opinion

second that of Shooter, what do you already have/plan to get with 3k in accessories? if you already have the essentials of audio, support, rigging, and the such, and the 3k is just camera based accessories then you'll have a prettttty good package but there could be room for more. i would say spend more on support equipment like a jib, dolly, etc... IMHO a camera is only as good as the movements you can put it through.

In regards to a second camera, go for a nice B cam, there are plenty of cams that can mix footage well so long as you know what you're doing. the gh1/2 come to mind, or one of the hmc cams

well we're starting with videography, big dj events, ect....Currently we're producing pretty good results with just HMC150 and a 7D, probably would be content with them, but i'm stepping up to an AF100 regardless from my HMC150. We also have some music videos lined up, and eventually shoot narratives on our own. Eventually we'll have to focus probably which I realize. Why would 3k not be suffiecient just to start? We didn't want to go to crazy until payment starts to line up more, I figured 3k would at least be a safe way to start.

I'm trying to be under zealous to be honest, thats why I figured i'd ask th epossible ridiculous question of (Should I purchase 3? =p)

also forgot to say, i already have audio, support (for the most part, still need to purchase lens support for my rails but thats it), may need one more light but we have a lot of lighting also.

Then i would still say, get your package of 1 af100, use it on at least 2 shoots, see if the package works, if not then buy up whats missing, and then weigh the option of whether an additional af100 would really make your productions more efficient and essentially earn you more money because of it. if it's just for the sake of having it and it's not profitable, then why have it?

keep in mind the logistics of 2 camera shoots, if proper preproduction isn't done then it can actually slow your production down and in effect lose you money

cheers

thanks imdjay, that was my feeling exactly. I just wanted to hear other opinions, even if its not my money I'd prefer to be smart about it.

We've become quite good at multi cam shoots as well, probably gonna use HMC150 and AF100 together for now.

Heres the way I see it with this "camera"

The AF100 is not a camera...its a BODY of a camera.

It is incapable of doing anything photographic when you unpack it from the little brown box.

Minimally ... you need a single lens. ( maybe an adapter as well) and a SD Card.

Now you can shoot something. Once you charge the battery.

..from then on... open your wallet , cheque book, credit card........it just does not stop from herein and.... if you want to OWN instead of hire on a resource needs basis...it will never end.

Two AF100's = double everything above
