TV sizes

Heh...dumb question and I couldn't find a more suitable place to post this, but I'm trying to find out if there is a difference between Canada and the US when it comes to tv screen sizes. My co-worker keeps telling me that TV's in the US are measured horizontally and in Canada are measured diagonally. I've never heard of measuring horizontally but then again, I am from Canada so I could be wrong. What's the deal?

The difference, at least during the CRT days, is that in the US, TV's were measured by the visible image size, and that in many other countries (I don't know specifically about Canada) they were measured by the full tube size (part of which was obscured by the cabinet). So, for example, you might see the box for a TV advertise it as both a 27" and 29" model. With the switch to LCD and plasma TV's, I'm guessing this distinction is a thing of the past...

The Cafe' would'a been a better place,,, guess we could use a 'General Questions' area

but what the hey,,, we still freinds

cheers

They are also measured diagonally in the U.S. Your co-worker is incorrect.

I second that. a simple matching between BestBuy.com and BestBuy.ca should tell you that all TVs are rated as the same size. I can't imagine how complicated things would get if it was any other way.

This sounds like the typical Canadophobia where crazy Americans think we all speak French, are communists, smoke pot, harbour terrorists and say "aboot". The truth is most Canadians don't say "aboot". They say "abeaot" (this coming from a Norwegian exiled in Vancouver)

I use to date a stripper and she said Canadians are prone to exaggeration. So I'd be careful regarding Canadian claims of TV endowment. Their TV's aren't nearly as big as they imagine them to be.

HAHAHA why did you include that? that was great

Do you really not get the stripper aspect?

Hint: Why would a stripper know about how much people exaggerate? What would somebody exaggerate about to a stripper?

I can't believe I just explained that.
