TV Pilot

Hi All,

I've been waiting to post one of my more interesting projects, and well here it is. We just finished post on a pilot we are shopping around to the major networks...

TheHaunteds is a reality TV series that follows the world’s most elite team of paranormal investigators. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be part of an actual paranormal investigation? Would you have the discipline, the mental and physical strength needed if confronted by a spirit or entity? Are you afraid of the dark? What if you felt something strange on the back of your neck in the midst of darkness? How about shadowy figures moving out of the corner of your eye?

The pilot was shot with the DVX100a and a Sony Hi8 w/nightshot.

The pilot was compressed in flash and will take a minute or two to load with a Cable/DSL connection (TRT: 10min). You can also view the teaser and trailer.

Let me know what ya'll think!!!

Hey, didn't watch the whole thing, but from what I've seen, it's well shot and could be as good (or bad! ;-) as any of the other reality TV programs out there.

What I felt was missing was a simple sentence or intro RIGHT at the beginning (in the first 20 seconds or so) where it QUICKLY explains what it is we are about to watch, e.g. "Each week we follow a team of ghost hunters to various locations around Western Virgina to explore the paranormal." or some such. It would also dampen the boring house shots.

Cool stuff. I enjoyed it. I agree with vidled about an open that tells us what we are about to see. The beginning is edited so quickly in the MTV style, I wasn't quite sure what was going on. But once it got to the historical John Brown stuff, I was hooked.

Hey guys. Watched your teaser and most of the pilot. I really liked the creativity in the introductions with the polaroid pics on the wooden floor. The soundtrack worked perfectly with that section too. The pilot was good, but maybe it's just me and I'm a bit tired this afternoon from lecturing all day, but the overall flow felt a bit disjointed to me. I know that doesn't do you much good as far as feedback, but it was just an overall impression after watching most of it.

Hmm..I think it just dawned on me what I didn't like...it seemed rather overbearing and forced. In other words, as a viewer I wanted some time to think and take a breath. Instead of telling me every little detail, lead me on and make me think about it.

Anyway..I'm betting you guys have a hit on your hands. It was really awesome.

Laterz,
Prof. D.

Thanks for the input guys. We shot 24 hours on location at the JB House, then another half day of pick up interviews.

It's always hard to edit a pilot because you need to jam pack every aspect, look, and feel of the show into a 5-10 segment.

Well, personally I like the show Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi channel a little better, but like you said, you had to pack in a lot for the pilot, so maybe it will evolve into something a bit more cohesive down the line. One thing I like about Ghost Hunters is that they actually seem to debunk things more than confirming paranormal activity. So when they do come across something that is hard to explain you have more faith that it's legit. What has been your experience with this show? Did you find it very legit or were there some hooks thrown in there to get the ratings?

Footage looks pretty good. And it looks like you got the rights to some pop tunes. Look forward to seeing more.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the input. I actually like the GH show - some of the members of DCMAG are actually friends with the TAPS guys. Our show is totally different - our angle is putting everyday people into extraordinary situations. It's kinda like American Idol meets Most Haunted. DCMAG is allowing nine brave contestants over the course of twelve episodes to compete for one coveted position within the organization. Throughout the season the contestants will be trained by DCMAG and take part in real paranormal investigations at some of the most haunted locations in the world. Each week only one contestant will be selected to proceed to the next level of competition

The production values look very good. I really like the Alison Krauss song in the beginning, very fitting. Did you get permission to use these songs, I heard a filter song, and a Foo Fighters track in there as well. I guess you would be OK as long a your not Broadcasting it yet. It looks like someone would pick this up. There are a few already out there that look pretty close to this concept, but there may be room for another one. You need to find something that will really make your show stand out from the rest. Study the other shows like yours out there and maybe see what you can do differently. I think it looks really good.

THANKS!!! Shopping around a new pilot is the hardest part of the process. I'd rather just be out shooting.
