TV Logic VFM-056 5.6" HD LCD Monitor Group Buy

Thanks a lot, Jeff, for helping to make this great product into an even greater one. Good to know that TVLogic is open to suggestions from users of their products.

Just came across this battery plate made by someone at cinema5d. Could probably be adapted to TV Logic's design with a few hardware adjustments. Unfortunately it only supports one battery - not two like Small HD's design.

I know the Lilliput's plug center is positive polarity. This could work, assuming that the TV Logic is the same.

Latest, direct from the factory:

I will ask R&D to add a Anamorphic aspect ratio support next time revision firmware..

TVLogic will add Canon Battery(5D) bracket option shortly.. around end of Feb. or early Mar. but we cannot find a 3rd party for AF100 battery bracket in the market.. I am not sure TVLogic can provide this Battery Bracket.

Regarding the Vector, we're working on Vector 2x gain feature now.

I will help them with an AF100/HMC150 source. This should not be a problem. I think it's cool that the DVX User Forum is pushing TV Logic to make the most out of this monitor, just as we have with Panasonic on various cameras over the years!

JUst checking in......a few answers for some questions:
1) The 5D/7D battery will not run the monitor for very long (I'm thinking 1 hour max). Its the reason Marshall didn't add it to their 7"....it only ran it for about 40 minutes.
2) Stock wise, the monitors are being constantly re-ordered.....every batch we get in is gone in a few days (some for existing orders, the rest for the demand) so if you order and we are out, they will be filled in 2-3 days (as long as the distributor keeps getting them).
3) We don't know how long this promotional price will last.

Thanks for your input, Jim. Here are a few things I've found while trying to make a decision on which monitor to purchase.

On SmallHD's website, they claim a run time of 4 hours using 2 LP-E6 batteries.

With this 5D/7D battery bracket, you can use your camera's batteries to power your HD monitor. The bracket will hold up to 2 of these LP-E6 batteries and will run the DP6 for 4 hours. Hot-swap capability enables changing batteries one at a time without ever losing power to the monitor.

Also, this 7" Marshall monitor has a LP-E6 adapter.

For the people questioning DP6 color representation, I am getting ready to beta test the next firmware which specifically addresses this (I am on their beta test program). (They sent me the file, just have not had a chance to test it). For those with DP6, I imagine it will be coming out soon after we give all our feedback on the change.

Hey GrimePooch, ;)

What powering option(s) do you use with your DP6? How long can you operate the monitor with it/them?

The 7" Marshall you link is the lesser one. I'm refering to the 70X, their regular 7" that, I believe, draws more power. As for SmallHD, it could be that theirs does not draw as much as the 70X marshall???
But then, what do I know "I'm just an actor"

I bought Panasonic substitute Lenmar LIP540 7.2V, 38.9Wh, 5400mAh batteries for $39ea. at Amazon. This is less than one Canon LP-E6, which is only 1800mAh. So, that's THREE Canon's at $49-60 EACH needed for one Lenmar. Chargers can be had for $16-22 at Amazon.

I use the smallHD batteries. I like how they fit on the back of the monitor, they are really nice and thin. I am good about shutting the monitor on and off when not in use, since there is always down time, so I can say I've done 12 hours straight using this method. Of course, with the AF100 I will use the monitor more than less. I think they said somewhere around 3-4 hours per battery. Which is in line with what my AF100 uses as well.

Rick, the smallHD battery is only 26Wh, which is lower capacity and more expensive at $79(including charger) than the 38.9Wh $39 Lenmar Panasonic substitute. I do like the thin, parallel form factor. My concern about using AF100 batteries is that they are rather long compared to the HVX200 Lenmar or other types, all of which would stick out the back.

Clearly, the Canon 5D/7D batteries are expensive for their capacity, and two would have to be used to get any chance at a decent run time. I believe my solution is the best run time vs. cost solution--the AF100 batteries from Panasonic are really overpriced, and even SWIT is a lot more than the HVX200 substitute brands, such as Lenmar.

All I can say is they've done a great job of optimizing the power on the smallHD then :) Because I am absolutely satisfied with the battery life. I used 2 on my DP1X and 2 on my DP6. The selling factor of course was the size as I use my DP6 in A LOT of configurations so having it thinner was important to me. I thought about getting the Canon bracket for a bit, and just have one battery type (at the time I was using the 7D) but after demoing their LCD, and using their batteries, I chose not too.

I was starting to look at some of the batteries that are coming for the AF100 with a tap off them, and might revisit that later.

I bought the Sony plate and some Lenmar LIS970P 7.4V 7800mAh batteries. I get almost 6 hours straight with one battery. Tested it 3 times. They aren't small or thin batteries, but I'm okay with that.

Wrong.
I never had 2 (Canon) batteries at the same time on my DP6. And I have 6 (4 are fake chipped Canons from HK, 100usd for 4). 1 battery (either original or fake) last for a couple of hours.
I highly recommend Canons with DP6. Thin and light set-up. So much that It takes nothing from a backpack to a Noga and switched on. I couldn't move so fast with my previous (lovely) 7' Marshall powered with DVX batteries.
Cheers

That's great if you're getting a couple of hours per Canon battery. For me, I need to put a battery on a monitor or camera and have it last for half a day with power on most of the time. I get this with one HVX200 type battery for $39. Even if you can get the Canon batteries for $25ea, and I was using Amazon as a cost basis for all the batteries--which was $49.45--it still requires three in order to match the Watt hours of one Lenmar HVX substitute. Therefore I stand by my assertion that the HVX substitute batteries offer more value for the watt dollar than Canon or Sony or smallHD. All of these solutions are a lot less than V-Mount batteries and chargers, which is what I'm used to using with my other monitors, or pulling down the camera battery much faster if using a D-Tap.

My concern about the SWIT with 7.2V power tap is that an AF100 and TV Logic WFM-056 pulls about 22 watts, and the batteries are rated at 15 watts, so I'm going to stay with the Lenmar HVX setup, which won't affect camera run times.

But for people who are coming from the 7d/5d to the AF-100 and who already have a bunch of the LP-E6s, the dual plate on the DP6 works great.

Exactly. Then, I love to use Anton Bauer or V-lock as well. I was just reading here and at the same time I'm hardly trying to put together a 20 kilos (local cheap flight restriction) Canon 7D 1 man band package for a shoot I have tomorrow. And that is where I love my 6' monitor to be so light.
btw, so jealous of your Fujinon-Arri, Dino
Cheers

I understand why manufacturers make/sell different batteries for many of their cameras (income).
This theory is aptly demonstrated by the vast number of power bricks I have laying all over my house and garage . . .

But given that we have alternative choices to the manufacturers offerings (Lenmar, etc) and they lose marketshare anyway wouldn't it make sense to standardize a couple of batteries across the line?
Probably not . . . but it sure would be better (for us).
