TV Logic VFM-056 5.6" HD LCD Monitor Group Buy

Bob, no, keep in mind that I bugged Flanders Scientific for almost a year until this was added to their monitors, but we've already seen two new firmware updates from TV Logic to address the converted output issues, so they do respond quickly, just as they did with the latter feature when Zacuto asked for it--this is what delayed delivery in the US, but only by a few weeks.

One of my disappointments with the AF100 is the inability to see the LCD and EVF displays simultaneously if the HD-SDI output is active. This was not the case with the HPX170 and means that an on-board monitor with scopes is more important than ever, in addition to providing critical focus due to the large sensor. I would never buy a monitor again without scopes and markers--high-end cameras don't have scopes, low-end cameras don't output markers(there are exceptions, of course).

the sales guy from Filmtools told me that the canon bracket would not work with the batts from the 5d/7d, the 5d/7d batts are LP not BP.

I've just read through this thread and now I am very interested in the TVLogic, in particular compared with the SmallHD. A few people have commented on these 2 in the thread, but haven't yet heard a direct comparison of them. Anyone able to directly compare them yet?

I'm particularly interested in how accurately they represent colors, but curious to hear about any and all comparisons.

Thanks.

As I understand it, both TV Logic and SmallHD use the same exact display. The difference is the features incorporated into them (along with accessories and power options).

One thing I'm unclear about is whether the body of the TV Logic is made out of an aluminum block as is the SmallHD.

TV Logic WFM-056WP is built with a lightweight magnesium-alloy case.

Anyone can tell me if the TV Logic has the same 2:35:1 feature that the SmallHD - DP6 has?

http://www.eoshd.com/content/551-Anamorphic-monitoring-on-the-SmallHD-DP6

TV Logic WFM-056WP has a "User Aspect" that can be customized for aspect ratio on a pixel by pixel basis, horizontal and vertical, that theoretically should allow for an anamorphic squeeze, but I haven't tried it myself. This User Aspect, once defined, should be able to be called up on the scan button.

Thanks. I've read in a couple of places that the SmallHD has some problems with color accuracy that is hard to correct. Assuming this is even still true (which it may not be), will this be the same for the TV Logic? Below are a few examples the reviews of the SmallHD that mention the color issue:

I know that there have been firmware upgrades since then. There is another coming this month I believe and I know they did some color work. Mine which has the last firmware update looks GREAT. I think both monitors are really good deals. I ended up getting the HDSDI version of the DP6 and GLAD I DID! No more HDMI for me :)

The one big thing I like is so far, firmware updates happen on a USB drive that comes with the smallHD. Very convenient.

I have both monitors and right out of the box, the tvlogic looks better.
I just did a job where I had both of them on my zacuto cage with a 5D and it was a lot easier working with the tvlogic than the dp6.
Having the menu wheel on the side is so much more efficient than on the bottom.
Don't get me wrong the dp6 is a great monitor for it's resolution but the tvlogic people seem to know their user a bit more.
I ended up selling my dp6 and just ordered another another tvlogic.
Just the tvlogic had a USB for easier firmware updates.

I put the dial on the top for the DP6, you can use it either orientation as the screen is flippable in menus. In that configuration, it is great.

I was using the sdi in/out and I don't like having the bnc cable sticking up in the air(not good for the connections).
Also, having the waveform is awesome.

Info received today from Preco, the TV Logic US distributor:

The factory is writing the code for the 2x vector magnification.

The current LVM Canon battery bracket from TV Logic supports the BP Series of

DV batteries. They are also designing battery brackets to support the Canon LP-E6
and Panasonic AF-100 batteries. I will let you know as soon as I have an ETA on the above.

TV Logic's "claim to fame" in the Hollywood community is accurate color reproduction

and superior scaling technology.

Thanks for your feedback: it will help us make a better product.

I have them checking with the factory about using the "User Aspect" controls for anamorphic aspect ratio squeeze.
