TV Logic VFM-056 5.6" HD LCD Monitor Group Buy

Just went to Filmtools in Burbank. They are out of stock but will have them in sometime next week. Half of next weeks orders are already wait listed and I am now on the list. Thanks for setting this up and for the great info on this monitor and the Small HD.

Glad that something worked out discount wise. For those who know TV Logic and what they offer(normally $2500 and up), this WFM-056WP is a great value at $1350, IMO. Once AC's start seeing this on set, they're going to request them, just as the LVM-071W 7" became popular amongst AC's.

Another battery option is four Li-Ion AA batteries can power the monitor for 4 hours, so that's an inexpensive solution. Just need the bracket for AA batteries from TV Logic.

Seems like either of these companies (TV Logic or Small HD) would at least include some kind of battery bracket in the price. I am a little annoyed at all of the "options" that I have to buy.

While we are on the topic of supplying power, does anyone know of a D-tap cable solution that has a step down converter built into it? I presume the montior cannot take an unregulated/stepped down power feed from an 12-14 volt Anton Bauer or v-lock batery.

I got an estimated 1 hour of run time using 4 AA batteries on the VFM-056W from somebody at Preco, just FYI. That's what I'm doing, I am buying a whole bunch of Pearstone rechargable AA's and using the TV Logic AA battery plate until they release the AF100 battery plate.

Preco has confirmed to me that the TV Logic WFM-056WP will accept voltages from 6-15V DC. No step down converter is necessary. TV Logic now offers an optional D-Tap power cable, making this monitor very flexible for use with full size cameras or rigs that have V-mount or Gold mount brackets to power multiple items, such as Ki Pro Mini, cine zoom motors, etc.

Preco told me 4 hours at a trade show. I will get clarification. We have $39.00 Panasonic HVX/DVX batteries powering our TV Logic 5.6", which don't stick out as far as the AF100/HMC150 batteries. Single chargers can be had for $40. If the rechargeable AA batts. only run the monitor for one hour, that is not acceptable, IMO.

Monitors are in at Filmtools, I will be holding one soon. Excited.

Great! Let us know what you think of the monitor. You will probably need to up chroma level to 7 for proper saturation. Everybody who's rented ours have been very impressed.

That's great news as I am invested in Anton Bauer stuff.

Couple of other questions that just popped to mind...

Does the monitor do image flip? Are there multiple points on the monitor to attach a metal yoke or even flip the monitor and bolt in on from the top side?

I believe the monitor only does horizontal flip, not vertical. I have requested vertical flip for the next firmware version. There are mounting points on all four sides of the monitor.

crs127, please check your settings. This from Preco today in response from my email(I said Preco offered extraordinary customer service!):

The VFM needs to be set with DSLR scale mode on and in the LIVE/REC mode, not PLAYBACK, which I believe is default. I'll test it with ours and circle back.

I tried everything you mentioned and no go still, I may have a bad one.
Will have to talk to filmtools about a replacement.
Thanks

Do you know if your monitor had the firmware update to correct the jitter in the converted output? I would expect so, or you wouldn't see the image in preview mode. It's odd that it's there, then not once recording. I will make your situation known to the distributor and, yes, give FilmTools a call regarding a replacement, confirm the firmware update.

Spoke to Preco yesterday and I have the most updated firmware.
Hoping someone else out there can test this config for me.

That's remarkable, in my mind, that they have got a setting to deal with the funky way the 5D goes into monitor mode when you hit record.

About to pull the trigger on the monitor. Is there any way to use Canon's LP-E6 batteries to power the monitor like with the Small HD? I don't see any easy way to adapt Small HD's LP-E6 bracket to TV Logic's case design, and I like the idea of using two small battery packs versus one big Canon or Panasonic brick
