GH2 TUTORIAL How to match C300 / FS100 low light image quality at iso 6400 and 12800

Agreed that Noise Reduction in post is the best way to deal with low light situations (if you are unable to light the scene, or unable to afford a better camera).

The result is certainly much better than the original noisy footage; but it does not match an FS100, or a C300. The skin tones on the noise reduced footage looks very 'plastic' and overly smooth, whereas those more expensive cameras would retain the detail that has been lost.

The old adage of 'garbage in, garbage out' stands true - the noisy footage the you started with can only be pushed so far.
 
The amount of luminance noise reduction can be decreased. in this way more detail and sharpness can be preserved. instead of using the Y slider in 50 you can set it between 0 and 40 and see what you get.
 
How to match C300? Shouldn't you have that camera on hand to really sell the example? Just doing noise reduction and claiming that now it matches a C300 is kinda...wrong. I shot some scenes with a 7d on 6400 ISO and ran it through Neat Video. It did a great job. But I don't think it will match a C300 by a long shot. And what if you use Neat Video on the C300?

did'nt you get the joke? don't take it too serious. but it's not just a joke... the approach is great and can be used professionaly. this is a low budget approach. What i mean is the low budget people can do "ALMOST" the same thing, and can do the same documentary or same narrative done with a very expensive camera. freedom for indie filmmaker...

Also...I wanted to add. I like that he's making the videos comparing to the C300 but...Reality is..GH2 is superior with light and the C300 is better than the GH2 in lowlight hands down. Of course you can fix your videos to TRY and match it..but the C300 is a lot cleaner. I's like to see the GH2 match the FS100 or F3 in lowlight....Nevermind..those cameras are 2 levels above the GH2.
