Re: Tutorial - Black Level Setup
This has been covered in some depth in many postings... but working in a digital invironment, the value for BLACK (PAL and NTSC) is 16 RGB and WHITE is 235. WHat you shoot and what you end up broadcasting are two different things unless you air directly from your masters with no color correction or adjustment in post.
IRE level is only for analog output and monitoring where 7.5IRE (from 16 RGB) is the level you want while PAL and NTSC-J is 0 ORE. There seems to be confusion of 0 RGB and 0 IRE which are not the same.
You can have a basic set up in the DVX100 where the black level shot creates 16RGB and that is MP at -8 and SETUP at 7.5 IRE or MP at 6 and SETUP at 0 IRE.
The new DVX100a has fixed the difference between the two IRE in SETUP where there is now the expected 7.5 IRE difference between the two and I will be posting a new table of expects black values for the settings.
