Hey guys,
Anyone out there know how to turn off the powersave mode. Ii will be rehearsing scene with the camera and it will just turn off if I'm not recording. Anyway to turn that feature off? Thanks.

Re: Turning off the powersave.

7. Other Features
scroll down to Tape Protect
turn that feature to standby instead of power off

(I don't have my camera in front of me right now, but that's pretty close)

Re: Turning off the powersave.

Can someone please comment on the pros/cons of standby/power off? Specifically, is one harder on the camera than the other?

Re: Turning off the powersave.

i keep it on....there have been times when I forget to turn off the camera - the powersave saved me

Re: Turning off the powersave.

All standby will do is keep your camera from completely powering down. After 5 minutes, it'll disengage the tape transport so that you're not putting any more wear on the heads or the tape, but you'll still be able to set up your shot.

Re: Turning off the powersave.

Turning off Powersave is a must while you're learning to use the camera.

Re: Turning off the powersave.

This was going to be my first post to the forum ! thanks Justin, and thanks Horsefilms. I agree that it's a nuisance when you're learning to use cam; also a nuisance potentially out in the field with a client looking over your shoulder !
cheers

Re: Turning off the powersave.

One thing I have to add to this post: if you're learning all the tricks and functions within your DVX, you don't have to put the tape inside (unless you want to record something).

I've heard somewhere and then I acctualy read it ON THE INSIDE LABEL OF A MINI DV TAPE that it is not recommended to "insert and eject the tape without running it (play, record, rew, ff etc.)

Cheers

Re: Turning off the powersave.

i do it differently: i use a slate and actually record my tests. i mean not where is which button (you do not need to turn the cam on for that), but the settings, gammastuff etc. write it on a paper film the slate" andshoot. then play the tape in the NLE and make notes and compare your images. i am sure one tape more or less does not hurt the cam.

Re: Turning off the powersave.

I know what you mean, but I am talking about "tape protect" and not "camera protect"
