I've been trying to find something all day that could work with my DSLR and iPad that could wirelessly connect the 2 so my director can view the footage live while its recorded...I heard about the Camranger but that 300 dollar price is kinda expensive when android users can just buy a 30 dollar TP link and access DSLR controller and get a field monitor that way...was wondering if anyone has experience and succeeded in this area

From my understanding, this only works with Canon cameras and android tablets.

There is a new product on the market called CaseRemote selling for US$129 http://www.caseremote.com
which sounds like it will do what you want, but I suspect there is going to be slight lag displaying the image.

On the forum was this post
"Some ideas for new features on the CASE Remote which would be great for those using their DSLRs for video:
- Ability to switch from photo to video mode
- On-screen display of histogram (on iPad)
- On-screen focus-peaking
- On-screen zebras for exposure level

From my experience, most solutions that would do this would have a small lag. Directors I work with will reject any system that has lag, and for good reason. It is incredibly distracting to be a director who is listening and watching very intently on performances and have the actors talking out of sync to the image. It's almost impossible to focus.

Might work for directors who just want to check the framing... OR maybe you'll find a good solution with no lag. I'd be shocked. If you do, please report back and tell us!

Panasonic Image app

Looks like Dan and Jerryrain are on the money with the Panasonic Image app

The first comment on this vimeo review http://vimeo.com/54820785
" I downloaded the video and at 24 fps, it looks like the phone was about 2 frames behind the camera"

For us without wifi equipped cameras, then Camranger/CaseRemote may be the only stop-gap till we buy a cabled monitor.

It sounds like you may be newer to the Panasonic cameras, but as others have said, the Panasonic Image App is what you need. I don't know how it compares to other products in terms of image quality, but it's not great, but not bad. It's more than adequate for framing and viewing the shot. Not adequate for focus, even with peaking turned on, unfortunately.

But you can start and stop and change nearly every setting from the app. It's an amazing tool to have, especially if you do any one man show kind of stuff where you're recording yourself. It doesn't do full screen, which is kind of a bummer, but on an ipad it's big enough to see what needs to be seen.

Set up isn't the most intuitive, but not bad either. When I first got my GH4, I had to fiddle around a little to figure out just what it meant by "direct" and how to hook it up to an existing network. I then gave in and read the manual and know my way around it pretty well.

So, definitely check it out! It works on both Apple and Android products!
