turning down the reds

Shooting 1080p in cinema V, does anyone have any tips on desaturating the reds? Most of the subjects we shoot have red work jackets that usually bleed in the picture. Is there a way to subdue this without turning down the chroma level too much and losing some of the other colors? Or is shooting in Cinema V a big cause of this? Thanks!

sorry, bleed wasn't the term I meant - more like losing all detail and looking like a big blotch. I understand reds have always been a problem with video, but maybe there are some work-thrus...

Are you on a mac? There's been some issues about the Quicktime player showing footage as very blocky and low-res, especially with reds, and as far as I know it only affects some people and not others.

Watch your footage on a proper 1080p display and see if the problem is in your footage, or just in your Mac.

We check our footage on an MXO hooked up to the Mac, so we should have proper monitoring on it. We also render off our video as 720p WMV's and the colour problem is still there.

Though it's not really a problem as much as a setting issue I think.

The reds look super saturated like they are burning out of the screen. We work a lot on water, so dayglo orange floats, and survival suits also have that super saturated look. The rest of the colours seem fine it's just the reds pop right out.

HPX picks up reds very rich imo. I turn my colors down a tad in recording - anything can be boosted in post if need be.

We normally dial the chroma down a little when shooting a very prominent red or orange with the 500. Also could be resolved by using a white balance device such as the Expodisk.
