Turning audio into sounding like cell phone

Hi All,

I am a vegas pro 9 user and was wanting to ask of some of your wisdom. Im doing a short film where there is a cell phone conversation.

I need to turn some of the dialogue to sound like it coming from the other end of a cell phone.

Any tips?

Your help is appreciated thanks in advance.

Sean.

Hey all,

I worked it out, for anyone who needs it I used adobe audtion.

Went to "filters" then "quick filter" and chose "old time radio".

Thanks anyway.

you can use the eq filter in vegas, just cut the frequencies from the left 400 and below and cut the frequencies 5000 and above and you should have something like a phone...

right.....standard copper phone lines had a max frequencey of around 7000Hz and the lows were not very low at all. So sammy's idea of limiting freqs to 500 - 4000 should work just fine.

There's a free audio editor named Audacity that might be able to do this....and typical audio editing as well.

Of course if you want realism... play the audio through a cell phone, record it out of another....

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback, I didn't know about the eq fx, i might try it next time but all honesty the adobe audition filter worked like a charm and very simple to do.

Cheers,

Sean.

I've done that with phones and answering machines before, but I always ended up tweaking it anyway. If you do that make sure you have the right room and absolute silence. I brought them into my little booth and put them right up against sound blankets, with the mic very close.

You can get the sound of a crappy phone speaker with a regular recording ruined with an EQ.

I saved a few EQ settings for it but in the end it is all about what the particular scene needs so you'll end up doing it fresh every time, finding what it needs.
