'turnhere' says GH1 not 'professional'

Thought this would start some interesting conversation... An agent from the national 1-minute micro-production house 'turnhere' informed me that the GH1 'doesn’t have the image of a professional-grade camera'.

Interesting eh... I respectfully disagreed proof in pudding style.

What's the bet they've never even used one, nor have the creative capacity to get 'professional grade' results from it.

Any HD camera is capable of shooting through a lens like this is professional in my humble view! But then... what do we know?

GH1 positively spanks any professional-grade SD camera ever made. It sure spank several current professional-grade HD cameras. And this Turdhere company makes web video commericals and he think GH1 isn't up to the task? Lets have a look at their web film example for filmmakers "Why sign up with Turdhere:

Utter crap in all regards! Pisspoor image quality. Lo-fi sound. Stiff as a surfboard editing. A pathetically bad green-screen shot. Totally out-of-place 'dramatic' stock music. Mindlessly unconvincing testimonials. A rotten stench of snake oil. Out of profoundly professional reasons I suggest that everybody here should refuse to work with these muppets.

Image as in the image of the video or image as in the look / facilities of the device?

In the right hands it can produce a professional image.

But it lacks many things that a fully featured professional video camera has.

If he's saying the image quality isn't "professional grade", that's one thing. If he's saying that the physical looks of the camera aren't what people expect a professional grade camera to look like, then he's right.

He probably means image quality, the guy is obviously a clueless idiot judging from the standard of clips on the website. This is representatice of the type of business which flashes around a professional looking camera, with lots of professional buttons on it that they don't know how to use, let alone apply in a positive way to creative work.

I'll never stop being amazed at how many talent lobotomised monkeys there are doing actual paid work, making an awful job of it, and still being paid by clueless businesses!!!

Well, more credit to us who actually have eyes then...

But tell us what you really think. LOL!

I love the promo vid. Makes me miss the '80s. Not a chance these folks have put this cam to the test and if their statement is simply about the look of the camera....whatever.

Now hold on -- if I was a typical customer hiring someone to make a professional production for me, and they showed up with a GH1, you'd better believe I'd have some serious questions for them.

I have had clients object to the DVX because it was too small.

It's a legitimate concern. In no way does expressing that concern qualify the guy to be characterized as a "clueless idiot". He might be a very successful agent who knows exactly what his clients expect.

For further clarification -- if there's a "clueless idiot" involved, wouldn't that be the end customer? And where most successful businesspeople draw the line is: the customer is always right. Give the customer what he/she wants. Whether they know what's best or not isn't the main issue, making sure they're happy is.

And if the customer doesn't want their production company showing up and shooting on a GH1, then don't show up and shoot on a GH1. Rent something else, build it into the budget, and make the customer happy.

Yikes. It's like an episode of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! except they're serious.

I think Barry is right. It's just a 'perception' thing. The butter people don't want to have to explain... They just want you to show up with a big camera so they feel all 'wow I'm getting the most amazing camera for my web vid'.

I was thinking about saying that I'd get the biggest beta-cam I could find and set it up on the cheapest tripod that will hold it up and tell the client that I'm getting two different angles! LOL

I would have come in here on their side, but looking at the website... that's really bad work. Anyway, does it really matter? Is anyone other than the couple of people who work in that organization going to be affected by the decision? We can all see that they aren't top of the line, no reason to be concerned what they think. I highly doubt the opinion of this guy represents a large demographic, or someone with any weight.

And to some extent it's true; the controls especially of any SLR type camera don't have the same professionalism to them because that's not what it's made for. And I'll admit that it took me a long time to be won over by these things as well. Although I see no reason to think that about image quality.

I jumped at the chance of being snarcastic and tongue-in-cheek back there but Barry is right. People behind things like this are not clueless idiots, snake oil salesmen can't be or they will not make any money. And for this kind of racket of course a tinsy GH1 is a harder sell than a camera guy with big hefty shoulder cam and a bunch of guys wearing the same t-shirt like a real team.

Yeah, I turned here... meaning I turned away from my screen at 1 minute 05 of that clip, trying to hit the close tab button without looking.

geez..that was a shocker of a professional "sign me up" clip and that's coming from someone that wants to learn.

like the line "i get paid to practice"...lol

What's a professional? HDV sucks and it's broadcast grade for several outlets. Why does some nameless ad-goon that makes CurrentTV look like the BBC have any qualification to that statement? Further, this comment is so unexplained and unbacked it would embarrass a birther at a town-hall meeting. No, it's not professional grade. Neither is an ex-3. Guess what though, Jack, they're used professionally. The converse is equally valid in the sense that any anonymous goon can start a "short film company" whose true purpose is to undercut professionals and subvert what used to be a crafted process by soliciting inexperienced labor to shill for a furniture company. Just tell 'em it's "viral" Fellini.

But seriously, it's a fine little camera and it's exciting to see something like it accessible to enthusiasts. For others like me and other users here, it's a great way to grab b-roll on the sly and get gorgeous production stills.
