Tuff Decision

I have an SDX900 and 2 DVX100's available to me for a shoot next week.

Think MTV Cribs style.

The Jib, Steadicam, and Wide Angle Adapter I have will only work with the DVX100.

What would you do? How can I find an excuse to use the SDX900?

Use the SDX nomatter what - it blows away the DVX in every way imaginable - just look at the footage shot under the same conditions - holy **** those 2/3 chips own.

I know. I know. I can't imagine leaving it in the case, but at the same time I'm supposed to get jib and steadicam shots...

Is this right? two DVX's or one sDX?

I'd go with the DVX's and the jib and steady rig. You'll be able to get way more footage shooting two cams. And if you don't have a jib or steady for the SDX what's the question? Go with the toys.

do you *need* jib and Steadicam shots?

..and if you do, get a bigger jib and Steadicam. - or hire an operator with them. (then again, what's your budget.. in fact, what's the shoot?)

Um, why can't you just use all three? The DVX has been cut with the SDX before, and quite succesfully I might add.

Not a bad idea. I just wish I could use the SDX900 on the Vista Head, but apparently (even though under the weight limit) it's just too heavy to be smooth.
Then there's the issue of having lens controls, which I have for the DVX but not the SDX. Oh, and the wide angle lens!

Arrgghh!

Ok Brian, you said, "Think MTV Cribs". Shoot with both cameras... use the potential differences in looks as a "stylistic device". Just mumble the word "aesthetic" over and over and everone will realize your genius.

yes def use all 3!

I don't know if this project is going to have an intro, but it seems like shows usually use a higher quality camera for the intro, then use things like DVX's for the actual footage for the duration of the show.

BTW, Laguna Beach uses the SDX as a main cam, and DVX's as B cams in tight spaces. some food for thought. but Kai already said it, hehe.
