Tube Camera Composite out to HDMI Converter to Atomos Ninja, can this be done?

Looking at the spec of the Sony GV-HD700 I don't think it records the composite standard def and Up-Res to HD internally, so there would be no point getting this over a GV-D1000 and up-res in post.

Back to the converter/scaler to HDMI or SDI route I think.

I don't think there is a ton of difference capturing SD and upscaling to HD later, vs doing a real-time upscale, depending on the quality of the scaler involved. Given the nature of 30 yr old cameras, there's a lot of forgiveness there.

Looking into this, if anyone has an comparisons that would be great.

This camera was built in the 1980's, there was no such thing as digital. I'll try to remember to look next week when I'm back to work, I might have tossed them. I know I still have a bunch of sony M7 manuals and extenders, probably have Hitachi Z-31 manual. Some selected JVC manuals on CD. Used to have my training school copy of Ikegami HL-43 and Panasonic something or other DVCpro camera, but those are lost.

October Update,

I now have AJA D10AD (Analog to SDI converters) with P-TAP power cables on two of the camera and am awaiting a custom ordered Panasonic 32 Pin VTR to RGB Component cable to arrive. Then the Blackmagic Video Assit when it comes out this/next month and I should have a good system to start testing.

Few further questions,

The AJA D10AD is 10bit analog conversion while the Blackmagic Analog to SDI Mini Converter is 12bit, do you think I'd lose/gain much detail in the AJA converter over Blackmagic?

Battery Solution? thinking of changing the battery fittings on both cameras and D-tapping both the camera and convertor this way, has anyone got any experience of this?

Hey Greg, I've been searching desperately for any kind of manual at all for the Hitachi Z-31. Do you still have one lying around?
I'm trying to get an RGB signal out of it which is proving to be very difficult!

Had forgotten about this thread. Jade, did you ever get your system dialed in? What workflow did you end up with?

I tossed the last manual I had for Z-31 about a month ago. I can tell you that there are R, G, and B outputs available from the multicore connector if you have the multicore option box, if not it is on the large connector on the back but might only be there when it is connected to the CCU.

If all this fails, solder a jumper to the R, G, and B test points on the encoder card, the green should have sync at this point but I don't think red and blue have sync on them. These should then be green at 1 volt, red and blue at .75 volt. Don't terminate them, pretty sure that is done internally at these points because I never needed to terminate the scope when I was working on them. Been a long time since I worked on these, so I might have it a little wrong.

I'm going to toss my Sony M7 stuff, before I do does anyone want it? I have service manuals and an extender.

I was wrong, I found another service manual for the Z-31a... What you need are pins 8, 9, 10 (r,g,b respectively) on the ROU connector on the back. Assuming those don't have any sync, you can get it on pin 11. Grounds are at pins 1,2,24,31.
