I WON THE EX1!!!!!

I bought a Kata "One Man Band" bag for my camera and found that they are having a contest to give away an EX1. You make a youtube video to show how you use your bag. I had the gorilla suit, so I figured it was a no brainier. I got my bag on Monday, and bu Thursday it was done. I put my entry on youtube, but here's the Vimeo version. Deadline is the 31st of Oct. Man I hope I win!

Shot with an EX1. Edited in FCP, with help from Photoshop and Motion 3.

Enjoy!

Thanks man! I am crossing my fingers. I'll find out Nov 15 if I win.

I think this video is my biggest competition:

What do you think?

Chad

just watched your competition's video. i was bored after 30 seconds. i would have turned it off but i forced myself to watch it so i could comment.

i thought there was way too much "non" Kata stuff in this video. too long to make each one of his "points" about the strengths of the Kata bag. your story connected the minute the gorilla walked in and didnt slow down. the kids "real humans" in your story made it easy to stay connected. the cutout paper dolls on the competition gave me nothing emotionally.

your story was personal the other was not. your story made the good and strong points about the Kata bag without just using gear....smart and clever! yours was entertaining the other could have been *maybe* (if edited better) but was too sloooooooow. i think the guy tried too hard to make a blockbuster and fell short. yours is technically simpler but effective. CONTENT IS KING!

good luck to you!

Thanks David!

At first I went "Oh Sh#@" when I saw the first few seconds of the animated entry. It looked very cool and professional, but as you said it got boring and wasn't all about the bag. So I think I have a chance. Contend IS king, and how can anyone go wrong with a gorilla suit? I figured if you laugh out loud at least once the video is pretty good. Even though I produced it, some things make me chuckle still. I think putting it at 200% speed helped greatly.

i laughed a few times but more importantly...i had a smile on my face for the majority of the time.

good luck

That was hillarious.
Looks as though there is lots of talent hidden beneath the gorilla costume.
I vote you win.

I just found some stiffer competition. This guy uses some cool stop motion. BUT he uploaded his entry AFTER the 11:59:59 EST deadline. How do you think it compares?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWLWE8lR3GI

It's pretty good IMO.

ok, this one is pretty happening (at least the 2nd half). the 2nd half of the bag doing its thing is well done and made a pretty good point about how "clean up" while owning this bag is supposed to be a breeze...ill give it that. i thought the first half was slow though. i could see people getting impatient sitting through the 1st half. had i just been watching this on youtube i would have probably cut it off before it got interesting half way though. no hooks to keep me in.

there is no slowness with yours. yours IMO is still more memorable (com'on a gorilla!) and for me much more entertaining. you did a good job of giving a friendly feeling about the brand "Kata" and i think you illustrated in **many** **originial ways** what the bag has to offer. yours looks clean and is edited snappy and tight. kickin' pace on yours. smiled the whole time again watching it for the second time.

i suspect that there is more specific info/criteria for the video contest than the little that you told us. its hard to say what the judges will think.

one thing for sure...yours wont go unnoticed!

p.s. love the look on the little boys face while the gorilla is framing up shots. priceless!

Oh man, I promise someday I will spend an entire day directing wearing a gorilla costume.

Thanks David. My girlfriend had dismissed the new video about the time he got the girl in front of the green screen and talking. But I said, "Wait, there's still a minute and a half." and then "Oh Sh%$" because the animation is cool, and he did make it about the bag.

One thing I'm counting on is that he got his in 50 minutes late (after midnight Eastern time), and the one he got in was at the incorrect aspect ratio (4:3). Then he put a note on that one to watch the real one with correct aspect. I don't think that's fair if they even enter his.

Here's some of the rules:

1. SCHEDULE OF THE PROMOTION: Promotion begins 12:00:01 a.m. ET on April 1, 2009 and ends at 11:59:59 PM ET October 31, 2009 (the “Promotion Period”).

Oh Here's another one I didn't notice! I like it. He doesn't actually have the bag, but the rules say "No Purchase Necessary".

Anyway I think this is pretty funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mnx_iHnnmSw

"I------- I'm what you call a maverick. I write - I produce - I edit - I shoot - I even score it when I'm done." Not bad!

nope. that was horrible. this is even less than vague. the product (or the idea of the product) has to be featured somehow right? why would anyone think this is going to do anything for the brand "Kata"?. even knowing what he was *supposedly* singing about still didnt make me think "Kata" during that video.

EDIT....... my kid (17year old) who also shoots and edits video looked at all the entries that you linked and feels about the same as me. he really dug the stop animation but agreed that it was slow to get there and was impatient. in fact he was antsy to get back to what he was doing since i yanked him away from his editing to check out all the videos. he thought the stop animation was bad ass but conceded that it was a little long and did less for the bag. his final choice was the gorilla videos.

Great to hear! I'm glad your kid liked it too. That last one with the guy singing: I don't think it's any competition. I was just saying I like it because it's funny. He doesn't even show a bag (no purchase necessary in the rules). It's just a funny vid that I watched a couple of times. My main competition is the stop animation IMO, and that may be disqualified if they actually hold up the rules of the contest. They also have extended the contest one or two times - I believe due to lack of participation.

I just have to let it go and the universe will take care of it now.

out of all of them that you listed I have liked yours the best, then second the music video, then the stop motion, then the animated.

Best of luck,

Jon

I did it! I WON!!!!!!!

I can't frickin' believe it . I'm shaking and I have kind of a sick feeling in my stomach. That must be good. Oh no, now I have to buy a new tripod, battery, media, filters, rain slicker, bag, matte box... And pay the tax on the prize at MSRP - but who cares! I got an EX1!

I'll take a little victory lap:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg7CsqRY3Po

Now if only they order the prize from Sony it could possibly be an "R" model. If they already have it in their possession it's an EX1. Bit who cares! I won an EX1!
