Trying to get Sennheiser MKE 300 to work with XLR adapter

Just got my Rode VXLR adapter from B&H. I tried using it with my Sennheiser MKE 300 and haven't had any luck getting a signal. I also tried an Audio Technica mic and that didn't work either. Finally I plugged in an MP3 player with stereo connections and got sound. Is this adapter only good for stereo mics? I could have sworn it said mono in the description. Is there a setting I'm missing on the camera? I've got the adapter plugged into Input 1 and have selected input 1 on the 1st channel. Also have "mic" selected on input 1. Any suggestions (other than buying a XLR mic)? THANKS!

does this mike require phantom power or is it battery? I'd try it on a cam that you know it works with.. and then if it does, it might be your adapter as you seem to have it set up correctly...

Both mics I've tested both use battery. They work fine with the mini plug on my other camera. Thought I'd get this adapter since the HMC150 only has XLR. Just can't seem to get any mono mics to work with it.

do you have your 150 set up properly to handle the mics? make sure the switch on the front of the cam by the lens is switched to mic not line.
