Trying to create power supply for mic

Hey there...

I'm completely bass ackwards when it comes to electronic circuitry and need a guru (or anyone who knows more than me) to explain some very simple concepts.

What is the exact use, purpose and effect of the resistor, and what is the exact use, purpose and effect of the capacitor?

The capacitor keeps dc from the power supply from entering the amp input. In other words, it makes sure that ac (audio) only enters the amp. The resistor provides the proper current flow to the FET. Without the resistor, you'd have too much current going to the FET.
