trying to capture 60i

I've used 60i on my DVX100B and now I'm trying to capture in FCP, but at first it captured it at 29.97, so I then went to Audio/Video Settings and changed the capture preset to 60fps...
now when I try and capture it is saying "Dropped frames were detected during the last capture attempt."

How come?

or is it correct to capture 60i footage at 29.97 and put this in a 60fps timeline?

Funny thing is, when I did capture it I didn't realise it had captured at 29.97fps (field Dominance Lower (Even)) until I put it in a timeline and found that the audio was behind the motion by about 25 frames, is this related to the wrong capture rate?

any help is appreciated

update: I have just searched the forum and read that 60i is 29.97, so I'm sure this is correct capture setting now.

One more thing:-
Am I right in thinking that editing in a 29.97 timeline with 60i is OK? and if I want to put this footage on the web I should de-interlace, if I want it to goto a DVD (NTSC) then I should leave the de-interlace filter off?

Thanks.

60i is the same as 29.97. It means 60 interlaced fields per second, which at two fields per frame, equals the 30 frames (really, 29.97) per second. Now, don't get confused here and start wondering why you aren't using a 30fps project. When TV moved from black and white to color, they needed a place to hide the color information, so they sacrificed 0.03 frames per second to use for that data stream. That's why NTSC video runs at 29.97.

And it is best to de-interlace 60i footage for the 'Net, but DVDs can handle both progressive and interlaced. So for DVDs, you are correct: don't de-interlace. Also, I would avoid using FCP's de-interlace filter. Edit your project at 29.97 and don't de-interlace, and export your master movie. Save de-interlacing for the compression-for-Internet stage, using Compressor.
