Trying Hvx100b On New Hbo Show

I am the co-exec-producer of the show that aired on HBO in Nov-Dec on HBO. The show was called HOUSE ARREST and it was shot by a wonderful 19 Emmy Award winning director/producer, Jon Alpert. Jon is amazingly talented, but lacks the comedic ability to make our show what it really should be, a cinema-verite parody of the life of a :pseudo mobster: being harrassed by the Govt. The show is attempting to be funny, but due to the production, the cutter and music supv/mixer was not really up to speed. The Pilot was shot (poorly I may add) on the HVXZ1U. The images are flat and poor, also considering that HBO did run an HD version on HBO HD. We are now shooting a second pilot on the 100B and our footage has been astounding! Color is popping out like we have never been seen and we have brought on to our crew, Tim Housel, who shoots very big projs. ie. IMAX and large format crap. My question to Barry and whomever can reply with some degree of intellegence -- the poo pooing WHITE BAL of these 100B's seems to drift while shooting, especially if you go to stand by while changing the 9V's on the Lectro's. How do you lock that WB in soit will NOT drift? I've tried Preset "A" and "B", but WB still is flakey? Is it the cam? Do I have to WB every time I get ready to roll? Thanks for any Wb tips. You guys are the best source of info and made me choose the Panny 24p format for our show. I truly adore it. It is magical.

Thanks friends!

The white balance should never drift if you're in manual mode. If you're in auto mode, yes it will drift (there's an "auto" button on the side of the camera; also a green "A" will show up on the LCD if you're in auto mode). Make sure you're in manual mode, and that you don't have ATW set to any of the preset positions. You can go into the SW MODE menu and look at what you have ATW set to; it shouldn't really be set to any of the positions.

Also, you can assign ATW LOCK to one of the user buttons, so when you're using auto white balance, if you like where it's set, you can lock it by pressing the user button that's been assigned to ATW LOCK.

And if HBO wants a high-def version of the show, the new HVX200 is basically a high-def DVX100B; something to keep in mind if you ever decide to go back to high-def origination.
