True Resolution on HDX100

Okay so if I am viewing a DVX100A dvd on a progressive monitor, I can use the "Thin" setting and consequently can get somewhere around 550 lines of Resolution. If I am not viewing on a Progressive device, then I need "Mid" or "Thick" which will give me anywhere from 375-475 Lines correct?

Will there be similar considerations on the new camera? If so, how witll that work? In other words, Will there be a thick mode that takes me down to roughly 525 Lines of Resolution on a non-progressive monitor?

You're asking questions that we couldn't even begin to fathom a guess on. We don't know what type of CCD's the new camera has, we don't know what size, we don't even know what recording frame size it uses (because DVCPRO-HD supports both 1080i and 720p... so theoretically it could even be 1080/24p carried within a 1080i data stream).

A reasonable guess would be that it'll use 720p mode. If that's the case, it's designed to be shown on HDTVs that support progressive-scan display, so there won't be any need for thin/mid/thick, it'll all be at the full resolution of the camera.

Interlaced cameras (like the FX1/Z1) need to account for the line detail situation to minimize flicker on the interlaced display. But if the HDX is indeed 720p, then it won't need to play any of those sorts of games, it should be able to deliver its full resolution all the time.

In DV mode, that's a different story, since DV is destined for interlaced televisions. I'm guesing we'd likely have a thin/thick situation for DV mode, but for HD mode it's not necessary, it could/should be "all thin, all the time."

I now only use "thin" v detail setting for all my progressive shooting (24p) to be viewed on DVD and normal interlaced TV sets.

It does not flicker more that rented DVDs (films).

"Thick" mode reduces resolution significantly and adds a ton of edge enhancement wich i really hate.
"Mid" mode adds a certain amount of edge enhancement, but the resolution  is really really close to "Thin".

"Thin" seems to give the best results even for interlaced TV sets.

I am very curious to see if the HDX will behave the same in DV DV50 formats.
