True Progressive Scan?

Ok. I was reading the DVX book by Barry Green and it said, "However, when shooting 24p, it's entirely possible that you will see interlaced frames. Because the frames are written to tape in their interlaced format (as shown in the examples above and also in the 24p vs. 24pA article) importing the footage into a 60i timeline will bring in it exactly the same as it's written to tape." (Page 49). Does this mean that the 24p modes and the 30p mode on the dvx actually come out as 60i on the tape and that the InstantHD from the mail in rebate will be useless since it only works with progressive footage?

no, 30p is 30p, and 24pa needs to be captured with the advanced pulldown removal setting. and set your sequence to progressive so that you don't export it interlaced.

Barry's book covers everything, and the search function on this site will fill in the rest.

Your editing software will take the 60i stream and re-assemble the 24 or 30 progressive frames contained within, depending on which mode you shoot in. After this you would use Instant HD, although I don't know why you would want to.

I find the upscaling on DVD players and HDTV's plenty good enough.

With the InstantHD, I just want to be able to have more control over the image. That and I would probably shoot 30p, upconvert to 1080p then break it into 1080i or keep it as 1080p
