I'm only a couple a weeks away from my first wedding experience. Still trying things out. Also I'll have my steadycam merlin on Friday. more practice. Just wanted to check if I'm getting things right so far.

There is no disadvantage shooting 24PA over 24P if I'm editing in 23.97 timeline?
I can mix 60i, 30p with 24PA in 23.97fps timeline?
60i for arrival and first dance on autofocus on steadycam?
24PA B-roll and dress up on steadycam and monopod?
24PA monopod ceremony, toast, etc?
play with gamma setting for 60i to make it look more like 24PA?
60i for slow motion?
30p if it gets too dark?

is this right? please, help and wish me luck. I'll post some pics when is done. Its a one camera for my friend, outdoors, monopod because I'm flying, to keep it simple.

Thanks to you I know a little more everyday.

Correct.

Not the best way to go. If you want to use 30P and 60i together with 24p, you'd be better off to edit on a 60i timeline. And if editing on a 60i timeline, you'd probably want to use 24P instead of 24PA.

Gamma has nothing to do with it. You can (and should) use the same gamma (and all other settings) regardless of what frame rate you're using.

30p if it gets too dark?
30P is about the worst mode to use for when things get dark. You'll get twice as bright from 60i. 24P can be slightly brighter than 30P (at default shutter speed) and if it's really dark you can try using 1/24 shutter in 24P mode.

Thanks barry, it really helps. I had that feeling when switching from 30p to 24pa..looked like 30p was darker. thanks for making it clear. What if I'll be using the 60i for slow motion. It should be ok to dump it in a 23.97fps timeline, right? Good tip, I'll keep all the setting the same for both frame rates. it should help even out the look.

I know I have to be carefull with the movement on 24PA..But, wouldn't most of the strob effect be gone when getting rid of the pull down in a 23.97fps timeline?

with the steadycam..I better do autofocus, right? should I do auto iris too? will it be a bad idea to fly it on 24PA?

Thanks for your help.

so much to learn,,,,wuao.
little by little.
Thanks

If you play it back at 40% speed, yes.

No, pulldown has little to nothing to do with the strobing. It's all about the motion rate.

I would never do autofocus if I could avoid it. With a steadicam just set the lens on full wide angle, and manual focus; you should be able to get a huge depth of field that will keep basically everything in focus.

should I do auto iris too?
I hate auto-anything, but in the case of a steadicam, if you simply won't have the ability to adjust on the fly, you may not have a choice.

will it be a bad idea to fly it on 24PA?
Practice first, then decide for yourself. I used to do an entire half-hour car show all-steadicam, all 24p. Worked great. But if you don't have the same skills as my steadicam shooter had, it might look awful and you might indeed be better off with 60i.

thanks Barry.

sure, I'm on it. reading like crazy and practicing too. I will be getting barry's book soon, getting some gear first. meanwhile....serching and asking is helping a lot.

Peace.
