True Color Matrix

Anybody know which color matrix option renders the colors closest to what the eye sees naturally... the truest colors?

My guess would be NORM 1. Have you tried the the ALIGN scene file from Panasonic? It may be close to what you are going for.

anybody know the real difference between norm1 and norm2... I have a feeling one of these is closest to true colors.

thanx

Yeah. Norm 1 is for NTSC colors, Norm 2 is for PAL colors. You can read all about this stuff in the "Scene File Handbook" that you can download from the Panasonic PASS web site.

My honest reaction to your original question is -- manual white balance.

AGMedia,

Matrix and white balance are two parts of the same issue. Setting white balance adjusts how the cam sees the light. Matrix adjusts how it reacts to it. Did I miss something in your posting?

His original question was about colors "true to the eye" -- and the single most important thing to accomplish that goal is a proper manual white balance. Gamma and matrix are secondary to a proper white balance for the goal of "true to the eye" colors. The gamma and matrix settings on the HMC don't massively distort colors from reality.

Again, the Scene File Handbook from Panasonic explains the gamma and matrix settings on the HMC150. But, if his goal is "true to the eye" colors, all of that is meaningless if he's relying on auto white balance, the wrong preset, or something else gone wrong.

The OP didn't say whether he was doing a manual white balance and he really didn't elaborate whether he was having a big problem with it only that he wanted "truest color". He did inquire specifically about matrix.

I always assume that everyone would do a manual white balance, but you are correct, it has the largest single (huge) impact on color.

sorry for the confusion. I'm assuming one has already performed proper manual white balance to the current lights of the environment. From there, which matrix would render the truest colors? thanks again.
