True 16:9 On DVX

Re: True 16:9 On DVX

Okay, but here's the question: did you quote that from memory, or did you have to look it up? Because if you know the theme song from UHF by heart, I may have to adopt you. That album is the single greatest Weird Al album ever, the video to that song was the best video he ever did, and that movie was ... ok, well, it wasn't very good, now that I think about it, but it sure was fun!

Re: True 16:9 On DVX

It is a great album.

I was just so overwhelmed by its sheer immensity, I had to pop myself a beer.

(From memory, Barry.)

Put down that remote control, throw out your TV Guide
Put away your jacket, there's no need to go outside
Don't you know that
We control the horizontal
We control the veritical too
We're gonna make a couch potato out of you
That's what we're going to do now

Don't change the channel
Don't touch that dial
(We got it all on UHF!)

Kick off your sneakers
Stick around for a while
(We got it all on UHF!)

Don't worry about your laundry (et cet)

Re: True 16:9 On DVX

May I respectfully submit that you listen to "The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota" about 300 times. That is an absolute work of genius. When Bernie steals Al's Instamatic, I just marvel at the craftsmanship with that song.

I'm not as big of a fan of "In 3-D", althought "The Brady Bunch" is one of his best ever, and "I Lost On Jeopardy" does indeed rule.

Off The Deep End is also phenomenal, I think "The White Stuff" might be one of his best efforts and "Trigger Happy" is just flat-out inspired, and "I Can't Watch This" is marvelous as well.

As for a single song though, how can you overlook "Dog Eat Dog", off of "Polka Party"? "Hold on a minute, just one more jelly doughnut -- they'll never miss it, no they'll never miss it!"

Where's my liquid paper? I've got my very own stapler, with my name right on it.

Barry, look above. I subtly quoted from that song.

No arguments with any of that -- though I think he started to decline after "UHF."

I'm not overlooking any single song; I'd submit "Mr. Popiel" and "Nature Trail to Hell" to THAT hall of fame, as well as "Buy Me A Condo." One can also not discount "Yoda" and one of his very best of all, "One More Minute."

In college, I used to call the Peace and Justice House and leave "Christmas at Ground Zero" on their answering machine. Never heard hide nor hair of their reaction, though they may have been too stoned to notice . . . ::)

Re: True 16:9 On DVX

CHRISTMAS AT GROUND ZERO! How did I forget that?

Just seconds left to go... I'll duck and cover with my yuletide lover underneath the mistletoe...

And yes, you did indeed quote from the Twineball. I'm just saying... it can never get better than that. Although "Albuquerque" is very, very good. But not the same... just not quite the same.

The other one that was great was "Twister" -- I used to page people on the speakerphone at Westwood and blast "Twister" at 'em.

(man, talk about hijacking a thread...) ;D

Re: True 16:9 On DVX

Not enough props given to his eponymous first album.  He was edgier then, a little bit on the bad side . . . some S&M references . . . "Happy Birthday" . . . "Such a Groovy Guy" . . . "The Check's in the Mail" . . .

And what about "Midnight Star"?

Re: True 16:9 On DVX

And I ask his opinion of the world situation, and I listen to his wise reply.

And Mr. Frump would say ("phhhh-phhhh; phhhh-phhh")

And thanks to you, I've been driving my beloved nuts with "Albuquerque." I hadn't listened to it in a long, long time . . .

Give me an L! (L!)
Give me a B! (B!)
Give me a U! (U!)

Give me a "querque!" (QUERQUE!)

I'd rather have my blood sucked out by leeches
Shove an icepick under a toenail or two
I'd rather clean all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue
Then spend one more minute with you.

I'm stranded all alone in the gas station of love
And I have to use the self-service pumps!
