True 1080p?

Is the HVX capable of shooting true 1080p? If so? How? What settings are needed? What is the highest quality video can the HVX shoot? I hear 1080i/24pA is the best quality. Not sure why. When I shoot 1080i I seem to get interlace strobbing. Isn't 1080p so much better than 1080i? If I shoot 1080i and get strobing will deinterlacing get rid of it? How do I deinterlacing?

That should be plenty of questions for one thread huh?

1080i only. To deinterlace, check your edit project. Sometimes that does make a big difference. In FCP its an option when you export. Check the deinterlace box.

It shoots true 1080/24p and true 1080/30p. Never ever ever ever ever de-interlace 1080p footage.

Any modern NLE will know how to deal with the HVX's 1080/24p and 1080/30p and properly remove pulldown.

Regarding image quality yes, but there are other things to consider. For ENG type of shooting (for example) interlaced is better in lots of situations...etc.

And don't de-interlace footage. Don't even use that word, scratch it from you vocabulary:)

Wow. Never heard such pushback about de-interlacing stuff. I'll keep that in mind for future exports. In my experience when I've shot projects 720/24pn and 720/30pN de-interlacing has not been a detriment. If it looks better after my export, I go with it. When I've shot 1080i (24p and/or 30p) I haven't had the need to de-interlace. And, no I'm not watching it on a broadcast monitor. I'm not a huge techie and I respect the info posted here. Barry is a wealth of information.

Sorry about my roughness! De-interlacing progressive footage is a major no-no, it just throws away resolution. You're taking every other line and throwing it away, and then interpolating between them; that can't ever be better than just keeping the native progressive.

De-interlacing was a way to make interlaced footage look more like as if it was progressive. Progressive footage is already progressive, so de-interlacing doesn't do what you want, it just throws away real detail and replaces it with fake synthesized detail, which can't be as good. If you're downconverting and going out to standard-def DVD it probably looks about the same, but if you were exporting an HD master you should certainly see better results from the native progressive.

Do I need to deinterlacing the footage afterwards in order to get a 1080p quality from the 1080i shot? How do I deinterlace?Sorry, just trying to understand.

No, never deinterlace progressive footage. Most every NLE will know how to work with dvcpro-hd 1080/24p footage automatically.

Doesn't anybody listen that they should NOT de-interlace progressive footage? If you properly monitor your footage in the NLE you will see the true results.
