Troubles with P2 Card

I wonder if someone might advise on the following. The following scenario has happened two or three times on two seperate HVX cameras (which is bizarre). (This is from my camera guy after returning from a shoot):

We removed the card from the camera, inserted it into the computer, and I noticed that the file transfer wrapped up way too fast. Upon further examination, I found that the card only contained approx. 3.25 gig of data, even though it had appeared to operate normally and had registered as full on the camera display. There was no visible error message.

I don't believe the file was playable on the camera when we re-inserted the card, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

There is a certain amount of "space" that the P2 card requires to function, just like any hd. If you have a 80gb hd, you might really end up with 75gb. The same holds true for the P2 card. I don't remember exactly how much you really end up with, but I know it's less than 4gb.

The odd thing about this problem is not that we got 3-ish gigs on a 4gb card, but that we filled up an 8gig card and only got 3-ish. Also odd is that it happened twice, on two seperate cards, on two seperate cameras. The only common thread was the MacG4 we were using to offload the cards.
We'll try the firmware upgrade and hope that takes care of it. THanks guys
