Troubles with Motion3

Well ever since I upgraded it's been a little buggy. But seemed to get progressively worse, even after the update. And after a tricky few hours tonight it died. Just wont start. Splash screen comes up then error report.

So I have decided that I will do a clean start of my mac, reinstall windows and FCS2, as I read that others with issues have resolved them this way.

I've backed up my iphoto library, mail, mail prefs etc, my Final cur pro plugins.

Anything else I am missing here?

I have no scratch disks set to system volume so all ok there.

LMAO - yer. Force of habit. When running windows resinstalation was a common practice, never said these words related to mac before.

I must remember my itunes as well..... anything else?

How did you originally install FCS2?

Was it a clean install of OS and updates and then FCS2? Or a archive and install?

- Ical calendars
- Adresse book database
- Safari bookmarks
- List of all your littles app that help every day (Flip4mac, codecs, Little snitch, etc)
- Softwares that rely on authorisation keys (perhaps ?)
- Extra templates for FCS

If you have external disk space, you can copy your home folder, and delete it once your sure to have all reinstalled.

And if your Mac run fine it worth try to only erase FCS an reinstalle it clean ?

Thanks for the responses all.

I just installed FCS2 upgrade over my original FCS.

matador yeah my mac runs perfectly apart from this issue. My system is clean. In that case whats the procedure to do a clean uninstall of FCS?

What hardware are you running on?

Dont forget to backup your preference.panes

Mac pro quad 3ghz, 6gb ram.

Every other FCS app runs smooth.

Again everyone thanks for the input.

Im going to give Matador's idea a try - but again I ask whats the procedure for a clean uninstall of FCS? (Im off to google that now also).

Cheers
Noel

EDIT: Ive just ran through all FCS2 apps and everything loads clean and fast. A quick test and everything also works well under load. I was thinking maybe a ram issue, but as motion is the only programme that has any issues I think I can safely rule it out.

Sorry ncje, I was far from the net…

So, It seems not to be a Motion Install Issue.

How do Motion crash ?
Does it launch and crash or don't he launch at all ?
If it launch and crash it's because he load something wrong…
Have you installed specific plugs ? like AE ones ?
Specific video drivers (AJA, Black magic) related with de video preview of motion ?
Specific video codecs ?

Something in your system that Motion check at launch ? things related to the display (freewares…) ?

Extra templates ? weird typefaces ?

Try deleting motion preferences if not already done.

If you already reinstalled Osx (it's always a good thing to refresh tha mac to initial state!) be aware at the things you put in it, and always try to launch motion : to discover what's goes wrong…

Good luck
