Trouble with my DVX

Hello Folks, last night I was viewing a music video that I shot just to get an overall look at the footage. I paused the video to take a phone call which went for 1/2 hour. When I returned the, I noticed that the DVX's screen was blue but with the timecode still displayed. I turned off the DVX and turned it back on. I rewind the tape and pressed play. The transport mechanism never moved but I noticed that an asterisk "*" appeared after the TC in the timecode area but before the timecode numbers. Did I press something by mistake that caused this to happen? I put a few more tapes in and it did the same. I turned off the camera again but this time it started to play the tape. So I know its not the tape drive mechanism. In camera mode it works perfectly but in the VCR mode it continues to work sometimes and then other times it gives the same problem. Do I need to reset the camera to the factory settings?

2 things u can try, reset to factory setting and/or clean the head(drum),but remember
always wait 7 sec. after switch off then remove battery or install battery and wait 7 sec.
then switch on ,due to the camcorder need time to do shutdown / start up procedure
if interrupted it will cause bad data store in to the cpu / eeeprom , camcorder will
behave funny ( lost time code , from sp jump to lp , ---------) .

OK. Maybe not the same thing at all, but...

When I capture footage, and I let the capture program run beyond the end of the recording, the screen is blue and the capture prog says it is still capturing frames.

Maybe it's just a case of the tape running, but nothing on it after the last scene?

What happens if you rewind further until you see some video? Will it do that?

Dan

There is footage on the tape. If I put it in a mini dv camera, the footage is there. When its in the DVX and I push play in VTR mode, I can hear the mechanism begin to work but it doesn't advance the tape. The screen is blue but the timecode is displayed but not moving. The only difference as I mentioned above is that a little * pops up in the timecode area.

The head is dirty , when play back curcuit can not decode the signal from the head
( a lot of error ) it will mute the video and replace it with blue screen , it also stops the
time code , little error will result with block noise , if one head is very dirty then it will
display horizontal bar , it could be black , frozen scene , or block noise , these depending
on whether the head is dirty while recording or play back .
