Trouble synchronizing cameras

I recently tried to synchronize two DV100A's for a multi-camera shoot using the FREE RUN timecode instructions on page 50 of "The DVX Book". I also followed the instructions perfectly but could never get the cameras to start with the same timecode as set in the TC PRESET menu (00:00:00:00 or 01:00:00:00). I even found on page 46 of the manual "when the progressive mode has been set to 24P or 24P (ADV), set the frame value to 0 or to a multiple of 5. If any other value is set, the time code recorded will shift." I did that but with both methods when I went back I also found that the TC on the cameras had shifted back to different readings, not keeping the TC that I had set. Has anyone else had a problem with this?

Seconde question is: if I can get this to work, is it possible to do it with 6 or 8 cameras. My concern is will all the cameras be able to receive a signal from the remote control?

Thanks in advance

hey , after you synch the cameras, If we start rolling at different times will our cameras still be in synch, In other words do our cameras synch together or do they synch with the time and date on the menu setting

Two DVX100a's won't syncronize with each other in FREE RUN mode. That is only the DVX100b that will do that. You'll have to set them both to REC RUN and start them with the same remote.

Is it possible to run one 100B as a master and then take a firewire output from that into a firewire hub and run to multiple cameras (which would be in "slave") so you have hardlines linked up to 6 or 7 DVX100Bs, giving the same timecode? I couldn't deal with Jamming the signals all day, why not just leave them plugged in, unless the camera needs to be free moving.

That's the way I'd run SDX900s or Varicams, but I'd use 3-way BNC connectors so I could send the signal to each camera and bypass at the same timen instead of having to rely on the camera TC output, outputting right away.

REC RUN will only work if you don't stop the cameras. You want FREE RUN because that way they'll stay in sync (basically) whether they're running or not.

You cannot use the firewire sync technique with a DVX100 or DVX100A, only a DVX100B can do that.

I own two 100b's, when I sync them up through firewire, why don't they stay synced? After about 15 mins, They are 1 sec apart...what am I doing wrong?
