Trouble getting P2 clips into Avid Xpress Pro

I'm a new HVX200 owner and I'm wondering if anyone can help. I'm trying to import clips from my P2 card into Avid Xpress Pro (the Academic Version) via an IEEE1394 firewire port from my HVX200 to my Intel-based iMac, but its not working. Do I need a driver to properly install my camera as a drive. I've called both the Panasonic and Avid support lines and neither can help me.

If anyone can help, or at least relate to my woes, please help. Surely I'm not the only one who faces this problem.

Yes, you need to install the P2 drivers if you want to mount the camera slots as drives -- it's all in the manual. After installing the drivers, place the camera into MCR mode, and then press and hold the MODE button for another two seconds until the LCD turns blue and the camera initiates a connection. You'll also have to set the PC mode to 1394 DEVICE. Again, it's all in the manual.

You can get the latest version of the drivers here:

Thank you THoff for your timely response today. I've consulted the manual several times and I have installed the driver supplied with the camera, but the driver is for a PCMCIA slot on a Mac Powerbook. I followed your link but it just took me to the same PCMCIA driver. This driver just won't work on my computer. I set up the camera in PC mode and it reads "1394 Device Connect", just like you've indicated. I do have the aforementioned driver installed on my computer, but when I have the camera set in PC mode and ready to go, there's no icon for a P2 drive on my iMac. The manual casually notes, "An icon for the P2 card contents appears as a removable disk in My Computer of your computer." Now of course on my iMac I have no My Computer icon, but nevertheless I have no such removeable disk on my computer; not on the desktop, in the "Macintosh HD" folder; it's nowhere.

All this has been frustrating and time-consuming. Hopefully I'm just missing something very obvious. Other than this P2 issue, the camera has treated me well. However, I of course want to be able to use 100% of my camera. Any further advice would be much appreciated.

The driver is not just for P2 cards inserted into the PCMCIA/PCCard slot, it also implements Firewire and USB connections (for the Mac and PC, respectively) to the camera. When you run the installation program, you can choose the device(s) you wish to install support for -- if you select the HVX from the list, it will install the appropriate driver.

Thoff,

The link gives me a folder with the contents: AJ-PCD20, AJ-PCS060, and P2PCCard Install.pkg. This installer package is the one I've installed on my computer about six or seven times now. When it's done, it says to restart the computer. When it restarts, nothing further happens.

You mentioned that I can choose the device(s) I wish to install support for the Firewire. Where are these options located? The installer package doesn't indicate these options. Do you know where these options are?

BTW, I'd also like to add that I appreciate your help very much. You've already been more help than the Panasonic helpline.
