trojan horse NOOOOOOOOOOOO

My anti virus(avg) popped up and said "Trojan horse found" so I clicked the button for remove or delete or whatever bit it wouldn't do it and said "stopped by user". I than started getting these POP ups saying

"Hard drive failure, the system has detected a problem with one or more installed IDE/SATA hard disks. It is recommended that you reboot"

So I did a quick Google search for ""Windows recovery" which is a program that popped up and apparently its a Trojan that makes everything on your computer hidden so you can't see anything in your folders and think that your pc has lost all its data. The first site shows how to uninstall this Trojan program (I'll do it tmw, gotta sleep)

My question is, I had two external hard drives plugged in when the virus attacked, but soon as the notification came up I snatched tye out of thier usb slots and turned tye internet off. Would tye external HD's have gotten infected too?

If there was only data (no programs, no scripts), there is nothing to infect. You can run a scan after you recover your system to be sure. If there were programs, they could be infected, although even that is unlikely. To be safe, before you remount them, make sure your system doesn't autorun USB/firewire drives. Disable any autorun.

win recovery will mostly be a waste of time as most viruses use that feature to re-infect the machine after an anti-virus has done its damage. your best bet is to reboot in safe mode and try to run your AV again.

Put your computer in safe mode by pressing F8 at startup then run malwarebytes. I think if you select Safe Mode with Networking you can jump on the net and download it and the latest definitions.

I actually downloaded it a week ago, and now I get a Trojan :/

Thanks for the tips guys, will start up in safe mode and run mwbytes and see what happens
