Tripod Toss Up

I'm finally going to take the plunge and go for a semi/professional tripod. From what I have read here, I chose to go with Libec. Now I'm stuck on the LS22 and the LS38.

My main concern is that the LS38, although a superior tripod, might be more geared for heavier cameras. Way...way down the road I might splurge on a 35mm adapter, but that still puts my dvx100b well under 9 lbs which is under the 22's maximum capacity. The LS22 seems fairly similar to the 38, just more geared towards slightly lighter cameras. I think either one will satisfy my needs but after adding the mid level spreader and nicer legs to the 22, it is only $60 less than the 38 on B&H.

So, does anyone think the LS38 is overkill for a plain jane dvx100b? Or is the little extra money worth the 38?

Also, does anyone recommend a cheaper solution for tripods that B&H? I've heard of Zotz Digital and Tapeworks Texas having good prices, but I have no previous experience with them.

i havent looked on those tripods but i'd say if u have the $ for the one with heavier capacity get it. A good tripod can last a lifetime if u treat it well..and who knows...even more down the road u may invest in a shoulder mount camera...or want to put a Jib on ur tripod. One tripod will serve all that. U'll cycle through many different equipment in ur lifetime...but u can have one tripod that will last.

I agree. If you have the cash go for the better tripod especially only $60. I wish I would have taken my own advice, cause now I have to upgrade my cheaper tripod as it no longer fits my needs. A good heavy duty tripod will last you a long time and many camera upgrades. Plus they hold value pretty well if you take care of them.

save your money and buy a used bogen 503 head or up with some nice sticks, do not cheap out because I guarentee that you will end up upgrading your rig at some point and you will need a bigger tripod.
