Tripod Recommendations

I'm considering getting the Manfrotto 701HDV or 501HDV. Although the 701 is the cheaper of the two, I heard it has some benefits such as fluid cartridges vs Teflon-coated discs. It's also lighter. But, the 501 has adjustable drag.

As for the legs, I was considering the Manfrotto 190XPROB or 055XPROB. However, these are considered photo legs, does that matter? For video legs, I had the Manfrotto 547B in mind.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd like to spend around $300 and I'm using the GH1.

The best advice I can give you, tripods and heads are going to outlast several cameras, at least.

You buy cameras, you INVEST in supports.

I just used a few 501's this past weekend on a job. I cant wait to pickup a few of these myself, it's a fantastic head, just throw it on some good legs and your set.

Im considering buying this setup from amazon

Ravelli AVT Video tripod + dolly

both items together are $110 shipped or so on amazon.

Anyone have any experience with them?

SHould be fine for a DSLR its rated up to like 8 or 10 lbs.

i wouldn't get that. Looks like one of those cheap chinese tripods my friend bought. It now leaks a thick oily substance and the pan knobs have snapped off.

I'd be interested in any feedback on this Ravelli tripod,
it doesn't look too bad and the price is great,
with the gh1 the problem is its weight, no need for 5 kg tripod with a 1 kg cam
