For those who have romped around europe (or anywhere) with a dslr (actually GH4), did you end up using your tripod much? Worth taking it? I want quiet time but between group tours and trains, i see it could end up handheld practically. With my olympus om-d, I wouldnt ask (the stabilization was good enough). The GH4 is another story. Good day thank you.

Take a Gorillapod with you. It can be mounted on or wrapped around almost anything for good stability.

If you end up not needing a tripod during your trip (very possible) at least the Gorillapod did not take up a lot of space or weigh you down.

This is what I use with the Canon 5d mkiii when I'm traveling in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Bahamas. It was cheap ($39) and lightweight. When I'm shooting a film I use a very heavy tripod (20lbs) but when I'm doing my dancing video I use this one since it is fast to setup and I can go in and shoot quickly.
