Tripod for Sony A7s

I originally owned the Sachtler ACE M tripod, and eventually replaced it with the FSB-4 because I found that the ACE M head had a little bit of kick-back at the end of a pan, where the FSB-4 did not. You also might consider other legs with the Sachtler FSB heads, like the Manfrotto carbon models or the Miller SOLO legs. ( Miller are very quick to set-up and can be used on un-even platforms like stairs )

I am using the Sachtler Ace. Its lightweight, smooth and stable. I like it very much. The problem with cameras like the A7 serie is the camera plate. They are always to large. If you use the bulky Sony 18-200mm with motorized zoom its not fun to fix it on a (every) tripod. I put an Arca swiss plate holder on the Sachtler cameraplate - otherwise it does not fit as I want.

Thank you very much for your response and helpful info! I was under the impression that all tripod legs with a mid-level spreader could be used on uneven surfaces like stairs.

With stand-alone legs like the Miller SOLO you can shorten and adjust the angle of each leg independently of each other, which is very handy when trying to position a tripod in un-even or tight spaces like on a set of stairs, or between the seats of a theater, etc...

Most tripod legs with a mid-level spreader will only provide a very limited amount of independent movement, which is why I own a set of Sachtler ENG 75/2 Legs with mid-level spreader and a set of Miller SOLO legs.

There hasn't been a post in this thread for a while but I am looking of an a7s or (a7r ii) tripod. I have done a fair amount of research. A suggestion that I have seen a few times is combining a Sachtler FSB head with Miller Solo CF legs. Do you guys think this is a good way to go? In terms of future proofing it seems like the fsb-6 or 8 would be the way to go but my budget could only really go for the fsb-4.

As for the legs, I always see mentioned "Miller Solo" legs but they come in a 2-stage (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/293495-REG/Miller_1501_SOLO_DV_Carbon_Fiber.html) or 3-stage (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/327753-REG/Miller_1505_SOLO_VJ_Carbon_Fiber.html). Would anybody recommend one over the over?

I know it would be easiest if I just went and tried some of the options out but I don't have any shops locally that stock these so I will be buying online.

Thanks!

It's really a function of whether you need the shorter folded length or not. 2-stage will be slightly faster to set up, and ever so slightly sturdier. But short is handy.

I've never owned a sturdy video tripod. I've always thrown a fluid head on my various photography tripods. Hence my concern was that the 3 stage might not be sturdy enough, I'd obviously prefer the shorter folded length other things being close to equal. Like I said I've seen the tripod recommended a lot but never specifically one or the other.

Does anybody agree that this would be a good combo?

I definitely need a sturdy TriPod.
I shoot with a 28-135 Cine lens which makes for a heavy and unbalanced combo.
I use a slider on the Video Head.
My old Slik Movie Tripod has connections on the legs that I use for external battery and 4k Recorder.
However, you could just clamp those on.
The center post also extends, which I often find handy to shoot over people's heads.
