Tripod for HVX200/ Mini35 Setup

I am looking for recommendations from other HVX200/Mini35 Users. I have a Bogen 510 and Cartoni Focus head that I use currently, and they work OK. However after adding lenses, mattebox, marshall monitor, I think the weight is a little too much for these heads. Does anyone have recommendations for a tripod head that produces excellent results with this setup?

I'm also looking at the same thing. I have the manfroto 501 head w/ the ball mount and the 3181 legs. the 501 is only rated for 13lbs or 6kg. My set up is already 15.5lb and I don't even have a monitor mounted on. so I'm looking at the Bogen/Manfrotto 516 head which is rated for 22lbs and seems to be around $525. (the cheapest head at this weight capabilities)
Anyone have the 516? what do you guys think?

i was about to order the bogen 525/519 combo for my hvx+m2 set up...

what are the issues? problems panning, etc?

I want a tripod that will be a good investment for many years and other systems in the future any opinions on the following?

Cartoni Laser
Cartoni Gamma

Sachtler DV 8/100
Sachtler DV 12 SB
Sachtler DV15 SB

Oconnor ULTIMATE 1030B Fluid Head

Miller S20

Many saleman are trying to steer me to Cartoni.
and most users tell me Sachtler or vinten.

not certainwhy the sales are pushing Cartoni maybe its a price point in the markup.

I am still trying to figure out if the Sachtler uses springs to balance the cam, Cartoni uses a dial I think and that is cool but i think that the Cartoni legs are weaker than Sachtler and the Sachtler head is better for heavier loads, like a hvx loaded for bear.

Depends on which Sachtler or Cartoni you are considering .
Generally people compare the Cartoni Focus and the Sachtler DV6. The Sachtler legs are the weak point because they use a 75mm ball and have a lot of flex at the ball itself. That's why I bought the cartoni even though I preferred the Sachtler head. Cartoni legs are pretty good especially for the dough.

The Cartoni is fine overall , but not heavy enough for me with my Redrock and a long lens.

mccainds has the choices right. you need a 100mm ball and then is it the DV8, 12 or 15?
i wish I could try them somewhere. The 15 may be overkill. I do know people with this head though and I will try it out soon.

I am amazed by the fact that I cant try them anywhere.

People act like its a 12K piece.

I was going to get the dv6 but now that I hear about the legs and bowl, I am not too sure.

But I am going to have the M2 and lens, Marshall lcd etc, so may the Cartoni isnt the right choice either?

How about the dv8, is that a 100mm bowl with better legs?
but isnt that too large a head for the weight?

And does it use springs?

Might have to get 2 heads for those times when you use the cam without all the extras.

grokgod,
Just think you'll be supporting btwn 18lb-20lbs. there is another thread going on right now that talks about the weight with the M2 adapter.

All those sachtlers have springs.
Seems that the DV8 comes with a 75mm ball. You can change it to a 100mm ball ( on a DV6 also), but then you lose the discount sachtler offers with the combo. This sucks. I think it then becomes a closer price to a DV12 though i'm not sure about prices once you try to mix it up. It is a big jump up when you switch to the 100mm. I think the DV12 is always 100mm

This may sounds silly but what are the advantages to having a 100mm bowl.

I dont like the spring method, the Cartoni had a simple dial , i think , it was cool!

And what about if you want to use a Cobra crane then what another tripod, that will make 3 tripods, this is going to cost more than I thought! :)

stability of the head on the legs. Its not the size of the ball in particular, its just that you generally have more stable legs. The 75mm sachtler legs flex too much up by the ball.

I have the DV-6Sb head and with my current HVX/Letus rig weighing in at 16.6lbs, it works very well. Pans and tilts are smooth. I agree though about the Sachtler legs, I don't like them. I paired my DV-6SB with the Miller Solo DV carbon fibre legs. No spreader, they go all of the way to the ground and all of the way up to something like 72". Best legs I have ever owned. It's a dream setup and perfect for the HVX-200 with a 35mm adapater.

I have rented the Cartoni Focus and was not impressed at all.

Bogens are Bogens, that's all I will say on that matter ;-)
