Miller SOLO DV10 Carbon Fiber Tripod System - consists of: DS-10 Fluid Head, SOLO DV 2-Stage Tripod and Softcase

Will this work out for me? I'm also looking for a backpack that can fit a 17" MacBook Pro, a Canon XTi, a couple of lenses and possibly a tripod in a side pouch -- I'm also taking suggestions for that one... water resistant, also.

Some people here have been saying that the Miller dv heads aren't that great. Everybody loves those Miller Solo carbon sticks though. You can find more info in hardware where this should probably be posted. Same for backpacks

The Kata HB-207 is a nice backpack. It comes with a cover that is water resistant on one side and reflective on the other (for blocking out sunlight).
