! tripod connection problem !

As stated in my last thread...just got my DVX100 today.....no its not new, its the first generation DVX

I got home and started checking out everything on the camera. I went to grab my tripod....then realized i have a big problem:

The metal threads on the camera, where you screw the tripod bracket on, are cracked right in half. I was trying to screw the bracket on, and it kept turnign without tightening at all. I noticed on the Panasonic website for the DVX100B, one of the new features is

New - Heavy-duty tripod connection
does that mean that the cracking threads was a common problem that they fixed for the new DVXB model...so they made it stronger...??

does anyone know the possible cost of replacing such a simple piece of metal, and/or where I can get the piece? I removed the bottom plate and noticed that the whole thread piece is held into the camera with 2 small screws.

any help would make my day. :)

well my problem is not the base plate. that actual threads where you screw accessories in (i.e. tripod, steadycam, etc...) are cracked.

it looks almost as if the last owner screwed something in way too tight, or it was under a lot of stress, resulting in the crack

sorry about that. lets see if this one works

now ya'll can get a better understanding of what i mean when i say the actual threads are cracked.....so i cannot screw on any attachments. ie tripod, steadycam, etc..

yeah the b is very nice.. those threads come right out in a little piece.

SumGuy,

All you need to do is remove the five screws on the ABS plate. That would expose the two screws that secure the tripod mount. Then remove those and as Jarred said, the broken peices will just fall out.

NOTE: Be VERY careful that no shards of the tripod mount stay inside. We've gotten some cameras that have needed lens assemblies replaced because shards from the tripod mount damaged the lens tracks.

Then reverse those steps to install the new part.

The Tripod mounts go for $11.57 + Shipping. They're in stock. Let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with.

Spec-Comm, thank you very much! Yeah i removed that plate the other day and saw the two screws holding in the broken pieces, so i figure its pretty easy to replace.

I will definately be giving you a call to order that part. Hopefully sometime this afternoon if i have time

I was trying to mount a 15mm support rod for my first adapter field test and noticed the screw cracked in half. No more letting friends use the camera for projects but this does seem to be common with the dvx,

We want to start filming on a friend's short this thursday evening and we can't wait for a part to arrive via mail. If I were to go into a local camera shop would I be able to get a replacement threading?
Does the DVX use a standard 1/4th threa? or is the depth of the actual mount varied, otherwise taking apart an old 35mm in the next days may be valid.
Thoughts?
