Tripod adaptor plate

Hi... just wondering which plate everybody is using???

I'm using a sony VCT-U14...

Now I bought a Cavision Swing-away matt box on ebay... came with a DV plate which seems to work on my 200..

So I ordered a plate from Cavision to fit the 300...

Low and behold it does not fit on the VCT-U14... there is an extra groove in the V slot area...

Cavision says it's designed for a Panasonic SHAN-TM700 tripod plate which seems to be a plate for the AJ-D700 camcorder... is this the plate that should be used with the 300...

Cheers

I'm using the Panasonic (SHAN-TM700) plate - got it used (but in new condition) off ebay for about $200. That's a good place to look. I also understand some other 3rd party plates work just fine but haven't tried it.

Strange I also have the cavision rails plate for the 301 and I use it all the time with the sony plates on two of my tripods.

Did you know that you have to remove the wedge and plastic plate from the 300/301 and then mount just the wedge on top of the cavision rail plate to make it work.

Here is a pic of mine with the cavision rails and mounted on a sony plate:

So his is my issue... the plate has an additional groove in it...

is yours the same Gary??

Cheers

I'll post some other pics.. when I can figure out how to load them....

Can't seem to get them to show up here from mobile me...

HI Lez that cavision plate looks the same as mine mounted on the camera so OK there.

Two things:

1: check that the round silver locking pin on the sony plate isnt in the lock position before you put the camera on the tripod. This can be re-set by pulling the red release lever. I have had this happen a few times and the camera will not mount if it is visible from the top of the tripod plate.

2: when you put the camera on the sony plate the cavision plate should be further back than the picture you posted, it then slides forward to bring the forementioned silver locking pi out to lock the camera to the plate.

Hope this helps.
