Tripod Adapter

$1000. They are kidding, right?

I understand the handheld concept, but they do realize that some of us use a tripod, don't they?

I guess they do, that is why they came up with a $1000 adapter.

I really want to shoot my feature this year in HD, but between the adapter and the six month wait for the Panny, it is getting real hard.

Please tell me there is an alternative solution to the adapter.
 
Others are reporting that the JVC uses a regular Sony-compatible shoe, so you should be able to use an <$300 Sony plate.
 
Yesterday the staff at the JVC booth quoted me $965 for the "V-mount adapter and tripod base". On the HD100 System Configuration schematic, the V-mount adaptor and tripod base are shown as not included in the HD100 Standard Package. If you analyze the diagram, the tripod base looks like any other broadcast camera tripod base, and it has a separate arrow pointing up to the camera. The V-mount adaptor in the diagram has a different arrow pointing more toward the back of the camera. Since the camera will take V-mount batteries form Anton Baure and IDX, as demonstrated at NAB, could it be that the $965 price is for the camera plate and the V-mount adaptor for the larger batteries? The price would then seem more inline with what you would expect.

Answered my own question by looking at the System Configuration more closely. The mount for the Anton Bauer is off to the left by the AB battery, so the V-mount adaptor must integrate the camera to the plate....

That makes more sense. It's hard to believe it they'd leave off a tripod screw hole. If they did it would beg the question "what does the v-mount screw into?"

The schematic clearly shows the tripod can attach EITHER directly to the camera OR via the v-mount adapter. So, there's no extra $1k to simply attach a tripod. That straightens that out.

Now the question is "how well does the image hold up on tape?" If I need variable frame rates the new version of Twixtor was doing a pretty amazing job at NAB... and by using software I can change my mind later. (Please correct me if I'm missing something here)

60p recording will not be solved, that was one thing they were adamant about. It will *not* record 60p to tape or to hard disk; if you want to record 60p, they recommended you get a D-5 deck and hook it up to the analog component outputs(!)
 
I am glad the tripod can at least attach to the camera. I assumed it could, but you never know....

Now all I need is to see some footage and reviews of footage and I will be one step closer to buying the camera.
