Treasure, a short film done on DVX100

Re: Treasure, a short film done on DVX100

I had started to watch this sometime ago and never got around to it, which is odd for the amount of time I spend here. So hear goes...

This film immediately started off on the wrong foot for me personally. I have serious reservations with 4:3. This film begged for a widescreen aspect ratio.

The music I found to be horrible. Immediatley I thought, oh no. Maybe it's the fact that software such as Acid is available, and with that being available, how can one choose this music. I felt it monotone and never rising or falling in emotion. Just the same throughout. I feel music is just as important as any element of the final product.

The titles were simple and this worked for me. Sometimes people overdo it with titles simply because they can. You did not and it works great.

I agree with the above post that mentions the POV from within the box. I didn't like it and it actually took me out of the film for a second.

I personally liked the passing of time with the clock. Could have been something else to illustrate this; but either way it works for me.

I loved the INT location. Your house maybe? No matter. It was very lived in and classy looking and not your typical apartment with white walls that we seem to see in everyones short films!

The attention to detail was great. Even down to the snchro scan of the computer screen. I thought the composition was excellent, even though it was in a 4:3 ratio. Still, I would have liked to have seen a 1:85 at least. A case in point is the classic bridge scene. That screamed for the letterbox!

The film was wonderfully exposed with the interiors as well as the exterior shots. Nice colors. The pacing was nice. It was fast enough to keep it moving and never did I feel I was hanging onto a shot too long.

I noticed (2) pull zooms. I do not like those shots at all. These shots would have been wonderful with a dolly or steadicam, although the last Pull Zoom of the man with the box worked (Even though I didn't like it!).

Going back ot the music. I really did'nt like it at all and a case in point is the end title music. That particular piece of music is a much better dynamic than what you used for the film. Too bad it was at the end credits when people are getting up to leave. :-/

The payoff was great. I am not religous. I am at a point in my life where I'm still trying to figure it all out, and God is one of those things I have not figured out yet. That being said, I loved the payoff. A great end. I was wondering where this was going and when it got there, I nodded approvingly.

Overall, I think this film was excellent. I give it a 4 out 5 Stars on the Hudson Scale. Great work. For me, changing the above comments and this films goes into a 5.

I look forward to more work from you. I am glad I finally watched this!

Good job. I liked that you told a story with out using dialogue, a tough thing to do nowadays. Well shot and directed. There were a couple of places I would have picked up the pace. The music was beautiful, but I agree you could have used some charges in tempo and feel. I really liked the end title music because of the addition of strings.

Keep up the good work.
