Traveling with the DVX100B

I just returned from Europe - carried the tripod (in a soft case) and the camera on-board with me. I also slipped my laptop under the camera in the original case. It all went very smoothly. I did get insurance on all equipment prior to leaving. No questions asked; however, the customs guy in Germany did tell me that he wanted to move to Hollywood.

nowadays, i have like 12 of those bins going through the xray machine if i have any camera equipment.
I recommend picking up a pelican case and carrying it on with you, security will ask you to take your camera out and set it in its own bin to be put through the machine, don't worry ... the xrays wont hurt, my dvx went through many times.

Yeah, its not that big of a deal. DO NOT let them attempt to disassemble the camera.

yeah , go carry on. Be careful putting it through the x-ray with tapes!!!! , you always have to be careful when traveling.

the only thing X-rays will kill is extremely high-ISO film (and when I say high I mean 3200 and above). Tapes are magnetic and are not affected in any way shape or form.

I had the displeasure of traveling through London Heathrow this last May and discovered that they've gone apeshit on carry-ons there: Although you are allowed to have two carry-on bags plus whatever junk you buy at your departure airport when you leave you are only allowed to carry ONE bag through security if you are transferring through Heathrow. This is by far the most insane policy I've ever encountered. they literally force you to either throw away whatever excess luggage you have or check it as extra luggage (try doing that with wine). They are also incredibly inflexible and rude about the whole situation and get you towed away in cuffs if you make any fuss at all. so if you are transfering through Heathrow with more than one bag you might as well check your camera (in your Pelican case with insurance) from your departure city. If you have proper insurance and tag the box properly you are safe.
