Traveling with Blimp Zeppellin?

Hod you you guys travel with your Blimp Zeppelin? It's a bit too bulk as carry-on and too fragile to simply put it in the bag. What containers do you guys use? I'm not a pro soundman so somethings affordable rather that something that will last forever would be great as suggestion.

BTW it's for Rycote S-Series 375 blimp.

I have a Pelican 1650 that holds my run-and-gun kit, and the zeppelin fits in there nice and snug with everything else.

I use a case similar to the one linked below. It is nearly identical to the Pelican series at a fraction of the price.

Differences
- handle of clone not as nice
- clone missing the stamped metal piece surrounding the hole for a padlock
- locking mechanism is easier to use on the clone
- hold open detent is easier to use on the clone

I also keep two Sennheiser G3s and 4 lav mics in the case.

I haven't used a blimp on my shotgun mics for awhile now, I have gone for 'softie' windshields, much easier to travel with.
I do a lot of news / current affairs / commercial productions and its very rare that I need FULL wind protection, you can normally find a protected spot for news and for commercials a shoot will be often canceled if the weather is that bad.

Outside of a case like a Pelican, a simple hard protector can be made of PVC pipe. Glue one end, screw-on fitting on the other end.

David, do you have a link to where i could get it?

As mentioned above , i'm no a sound pro so i don't travel with full sound rig - just bits and pieces stashed away in my camera bag - the blimp is simply too big to "stash it away."

OzGizmo, on my recent shoot 2 great interviews were shot in very windy environments - and even though we managed (with Rode softee), the sound was hit with gusts of wind here and there - i want to prevent it this time as i know again we'l be shooting in windy outside.

I use a Porta Brace SZW-3. I'm caring a smaller zepp so YMMV. It holds all me recoding gear for field recording and is sized to qualify as carry-on. I never check gear unless there is no choice.

Even inside a Pelican or other hard shelled case that gets checked, a Zep. still needs a hard shell, like the PVC tube previously mentioned. The luggage airport luggage 'handlers' are pretty rough.

Patryk,

If you can't do something like a Pelican, or a PVC tube, you might want to compromise and use a softie like the rode ws6 or ws7 or similar Rycote model. If you are using a small condenser, try a Rycote baby ball gag.

A good hard suitcase will suffice - not as good as a Peli, but much cheaper - then either have it foamed out or use bubble wrap.

If you are afraid of it being crushed, I would try wooden spacers inside to help prevent too much flexing.

Though a Peli is the best option.
