About to fly cross country on vacation and am pulling together suggestions on what equipment to take. I have even gone as far to sit down and make a list of shots I want to help me determine what to bring along. The obvious issue is weight since now you gotta pay for each peice of luggage you fly with and check. I am a Panasonic G series guy (GH1, GF1 and recently bought a GH2) so have several camera options as well as own two GoPro HeroHD's.
I will keep my camera(The GH2) in a carry-on Backpack, along with a few items that I do not want to be seperated from and the rest has to fit in luggage which will be checked.
While I will need to weigh things up once I complete the list along with luggage to stay under the 50 lbs limit, my list so far includes (keep in mind they will be split up between a suitcase and a carryon backpack:
Camera's
GH2 HiDef Video footage and photography
(One or other) GH1 or GF1 for photography and timelapse
(2) GoPro's for wide shots and timelapse driving sequences
Mounts/Stablizers
Aluminum tripod/mono pod combo with ball head (together weighs only 4lbs)
Delkin Fat Gecko Dual (for mounting camera on & in rental car)
Possibly a Pico Dolly and one 7 segment arm
Other esentials
wired Shutter timer for Timelapse
Plenty of SD cards
Rain covering
Charger & extra batteries
14-140mm Lumix lens
20mm Lens
I have an 24 inch slider, but the Pico Dolly is smaller and lighter and easier to transport and I figure I can use the monopod as a shoulder stock so I can do with out my main cage/shoulder rig which is way to hard to pack. The monopod can also double as an extension pole for action shots with the GoPro's. With the GoPro's and their capability, taking the Fat Gecko for the DSLR seems almost redundant, but for now am considering it and only one GoPro suction mount so I can use it interchangibly with one of the DSLR's and the Gopro's. My only issue is which and how many camera's. Plus I am only planning on taking two lenses and while I have several canon FD lenses and a really nice Nikon 600mm, figured for video and space would travel light.
Thoughts
My wife has adopted the GF1 and my 14-42mm Lumix lense for photography(she can carry seperately; my intital thought is that and the GH2 is enough, but will I regret not having the GH1 which as similar video characteristics of the GH2 (GF is only 720p/24 hacked).
Edited: Oh, I forgot to mention I p[lan on taking my Zoom H4, batteries and a table top stand/handle for it.
