transfering footage to FCP

I copied a P2 card (with only 3 clips) from the cam to a HDD. If I do explore in the cam of the HDD I see only one file of 59 Gb on the HDD. I deleted the 3 clips on the P2 card and copied the content of the HDD back to the P2 card and the 3 files are there again, so that works (was just a check if that one file contains the 3 clips). I am trying to get a feeling of the P2 workflow :-) So if i connect the HDD via FW800 to a Mac and use the transfer command in FCP does it recognize that file (contaning the 3 clips) and eventualy r clips will show up in the browser ?? What codec should i take in the sequence? The clips are recorded in AVC-I-100 720/50p. Yes maybe I should have started this thread in FCP forum but I am using the hpx300 so I guess here are the experts :-)

What version of Final Cut Pro are you using? If you're on version 6, AVC-Intra will get transcoded to ProRes or ProRes HQ (depending how you set it in the Log and Transfer preferences), so your sequence preset will be ProRes 720p/50.

In Final Cut Pro 7, there should be a Log and Transfer option for native AVC-I importing, so your sequence will also be set to AVC-Intra, as far as I know. I'm still on version 6, so hopefully someone using 7 can confirm this.

I will be using FCP7 at my college (still waiting for Apple to upgrade their Mac pro probably Q1 2010 before I buy my own setup). Yes there is a log and transfer option.

I use the USB link on my 301 and FCP 6 and 7 saw the card and clips straight away in log and transfer.

As stated FCP 7 will transcode the clips natively or you can choose to transcode to any of the pro res settings.
