Transfering footage to computer DISCONNECT USB

Hi,

I just recently purchased a Panasonic HMC150. I have yet to purchase sdhc card reader and intended to just run the usb cable into the cam for the time being. Whenever I do this I recieve an error telling me to disconnect the usb cable. Anyone know anything about this? i really want to get this footage into the comp. i've tested the cable with other accessories and it appears to be working fine.
 
You need to get into the proper mode before connecting the two devices... then you wont get that message...
