is there a way to transfer footage from my p2 card using usb? also isd it possible to transfer footage out of my hvx using usb? i want to transfer it to my pc. thanks in advance for all help provided.
 
Yes, you use USB in Windows to transfer footage from the card, using the camera as a card reader. In the camera menus, under "PC Mode," you want "USB Device." Then, you put the camera in PC/DUB mode (the button on the back; the slider should be on "P2"). With the proper drivers installed, you can read the card like any drive.

If by "transfer footage out of my HVX" you mean live streaming, no, that's done over 1394.
 
a general questio: what would be an advantage to transferring this way other than bypassing an adapter ?

i guess for me having Vegas there is no advantage.
 
The camera can be used as a card reader if necessary. It's a no-cost option to be able to transfer cards. The downside is that it ties the camera up during the transfer.
