Guys,

I am going to buy DVX100AE.
My question is: anyone of you transfers PAL footage to NTSC using DV ATLANTIS software?

Do I get decent NTSC copy after this?

If I do, it makes sense to buy DVXAE and shoot in PAL (better resolution for Europe market and film transfer) and in case I need NTSC copy of my film I just will use ATLANTIS on my laptop and ... this is a question: is NTSC material really good after this transfer?

Thanks a lot,

Voytek

They offer a free demo version. The best answer is going to be for you to download it and try it yourself, because that's the only way you'll know whether it's good enough for your standards. I've heard it does a good job but don't have any experience with it.

I have also heard that it is extremely slow. It is said to do a good job, but make sure you have a beefy laptop with a good power supply. Idealy I would be running something like atlantis on a Powerful P4 or in the mac world a G5. You do live in PAL land don't you? This probably would not be a wise decision if you didn't.

Re: transfer from PAL to NTSC with DV ATLANTIS?

I live in USA. I want to get DVX PAL because of the better vertical resolution. If I shoot in PAL and next corp from 4:3 to 16:9 in post I will get full NTSC resolution in my final film. Otherwise If I shoot in NTSC and next crop to 16:9 in post I have poor NTSC copy (less resolution).

At least that's what I was told.

I will edit on Vegas 4.0 (which works both in PAL and NTSC) editing my PAL footage and next I plan to use DV ATLANTIS (WWW.DVFILM.COM) software on my laptop to make a NTSC copy for american market.

So,I still do not know if ATLANTIS makes good quality NTSC copy from PAL footage.

Anyone knows ?
